No matter how bad he is at that level he’s still a far better driver than those knocking his ability.
I wonder how many of us could get within 5 seconds of him in a hot hatch let alone a mid field F1 car.
It's not about us mate.I wonder how many of us could get within 5 seconds of him in a hot hatch let alone a mid field F1 car.
He's finished , one trick pony.
Top 3 record holder in F1 history. One hell of a trick I guess.
I'm sure he really gives a st about what some idiots on a British forum think about him.
I'd really like to see Vettel knock the driving on the head and take up commentating or similar. He's funny, he's intelligent and he clearly knows his stuff. Scrabbling around for another 3-4 years falling further down the pack until he ends up in a Haas or whatever would be a sad way to go.

Jesus really? When we say mazipan is st or maldonado is useless obvious it is with the underestanding they would outdrive any of us. But compared to their peers that is how we judge them.I wonder how many of us could get within 5 seconds of him in a hot hatch let alone a mid field F1 car.
I expected better from this site and its users to not have to stipulate that.

How many of us if we had a wealthy daddy with an open chequebook would have had his seat on merit alone?
That's not a bitter post but when most of the grid doesn't represent the actual talented its worth a re mention.
New team, much lower milage than hoped for at testing, somewhat flawed Aston Martin design concept..
He did more laps at Imola than the whole of testing, and on the slick tyres looked handy, and the times decent.
Portimao will be a decent litmus test for Seb and Aston.
To be honest I thought he step straight into the car and put in a better performance to date, but I also thought that of Alonso and Dani Ricc. The loss of the downforce from the rear section of the floor does really seemed to have hurt the Aston, as in race trim its quite a bit off the pace compared to last years Racing Point vs the field (that was a car that Hulk jumped into and put on the 2nd row last year). The car might just well need high track temps to help the tyres.

Really??????
That's embarrassing if true
I meant in terms of sponsorship to the team that he carries personally. That's embarrassing if true
Also lots of the top drivers will attract sponsorship to the team that the team wouldn't get if the driver wasn't a WDC.

Stick him in the merc or bull and he’d soon discover his mojo, driving at Ferrari must be one of the most overrated thankless energy draining seats in F1, same thing happened to Alonso too. Sort of worry for Carlos going there.
Why do you think that? He has proven, every year since his last WDC, that the current regulations do not allow a car that suits him. Mastery of differing car characteristics define a truly great driver. Vettel has not done so.Frimley111R said:
He showed potential initially and won 4 championships by being faster than the his teammate in a car that was faster than any others. Since MW left RB he's been beaten continually and the more he drives the more his reputation takes a hit.
He was beaten by Ricciardo (who was beaten by Kvyat in 2015...which people omit, and is now getting beaten by a spotty teenager who has a girly sense of humour) He beaten Raikonnen handily
He narrowly lost to Leclerc in 2019 where the stats werent as lopsided as people like to make out and he had one more DNF too I think?
He lost handily to Leclerc in 2020. Did he have the same equipment? Ferrari politics would suggest no, but who knows? Its hard to believe that he lost 0.5 seconds to a team mate over one season.
2021 he has had a poor start but at Imola his pace was decent but people are overlooking that he had a brake fire, started plum last, got a 10 second penalty (losing 30+ seconds overall) and then retired with gearbox issues. In qualifying his team got the calculations wrong and didnt send him out as the track was getting quicker.
People love chiming in and kicking someone when they're down but sometimes perspective is needed too.

I would say that his 'narrow' defeat in 2019 was a bigger deal than the records show however. At the time Ferrari were fairly open about the fact seb was their guy, their No1. He had the advantage in that respect. Leclerc didn't just beat Seb - he had to spend time proving he was worth at least even footing before he could set about battling Seb.
In the end, as I recall, both drivers repeatedly ignored team orders, the whole season became a farce for Ferrari and as a result the team (finally) announced that Ferrari would no longer follow the model of a No1 and no2 driver.

Leclerc took 7 of the Ferraris 9 pole positions that year too..

Yes - Ferrari made a laughing stock of themselves that year, cringe is an understatement Leclerc took 7 of the Ferraris 9 pole positions that year too..
The 2018 incident in Germany shook seb, 2019 probably cemented the damage.
Although ironically I'd say he's way more popular on the grid and around the world than when he was winning, and will surely be fondly remembered whenever his services are no longer required - which might be a while despite his performance.
Edit: and to add salt to the wound it turned out they were cheating that season too! All in all Seb's time at the dream team couldn't have gone more wrong.

Looks lost to me I am afraid, has done almost since the hybrid era.
Reminds me of Hill and Villeneuve after they went grooves in the 90's they both just lost a little.
Danny Riocc wupped him first year, that was when the bubble burstfor me, that this was just a decent driver in a very good car, much like these days sadly.
