People are happy with Vettel being middle of the pack. If he was challenging Hamilton there would be plenty of knives, that's for sure.
Vettel beat Hamilton at the weekend, all I see is goodwill towards him? It’s as though you believe that Hamilton is a universally popular driver. In my opinion he is the most nit picked driver.
i.e. I think knives aimed at Vettel are Vettel's doing and have no relation to Hamilton. Even Alonso's getting some stick now and he, as a driver, is mostly seen as untouchable. As a team player, that's an entirely different story
For me, the knives really came out for Vettel in 2020 when he could get nowhere near LeClerc. I assume the same happened in 2014 but I guess I wasn't paying so much attention to the PH F1 forums back then.

In 2014 he had a performance clause, so some wondered if his performance against Ricciardo was motivated by the change at Ferrari (where Alonso leaving was also big news).
Less so against LeClerc.
Who is to say that Vettel and Charles got the same equipment? Less so against LeClerc.
I find it hard to believe that they were both pretty evenly matched in 2019 (the stats arent lopsided for Leclerc) and then Vettel gets completely buried by Charles.
I remember Sky making a big deal last year about Ferrari politics, being persona non-grata with management, lack of updates, being frozen out of meetings etc.

That's true, he did. I don't think he slowed down on purpose for that though. For one thing, I'd think it would be obvious in the telemetry, either as a bit change in his driving to suddenly be overdriving the car everywhere, or as not trying hard enough on the throttle or braking too early or something. For another thing, I think it would be quite difficult for a racing driver to let himself get beaten for a full season on purpose if they were still motivated to race, and had the ability to be beating their team mate. And thirdly, Ricciardo proved he's quick later on against Verstappen so it's not much of a surprise he gave Vettel a good run.Less so against LeClerc.
I think Vettel just didn't get on with the 2020 car at all, it was way too unpredictable for him. Charles also spun a lot, which I still think is a lot down to him but also suggests the car is difficult on the limit. At the same time Ferrari lost interest in Seb and he didn't get the support he needed to get up to pace, once Charles had proved he could match or beat him on pace in 2019.

I hope Vettel has made that mental step and got his confidence back. Certainly looks like it.
2 brilliant races in a row from him.
Yep, fair play. Ferrari obviously wasn't the right environment for him, good to see he's still got it. I doubt we'll see him bag a WC again, but a podium this early in his AM career - cracking. Pleased for Perez too2 brilliant races in a row from him.

Wonder if he prefers being with a English team less pressure and politics compared too Ferrari. Either way great to see him genuinely happy again.
I'm sure it was mentioned on The Race podcast earlier last week that Vettel didn't have the engineering lineup on his side of the garage he was promised when he signed. That along with some internal politics along the way pretty much nailed the coffin lid shut on his time there a couple of seasons ago. DanielSan said:

Typical Italian team. Destroyed Vettle, destroyed Alonso, will do the same to Carlos and Charles if they're not careful. Same thing happens in MotoGP with Ducati. Several riders have fallen out with the factory team due to internal politics.
Both teams are similar in that when things don't go well they blame the drivers and put more pressure on them to make up for machinery which isn't good enough to race at the front. Rather than looking at the kit they're using it's easier to blame the drivers.
