For the race last year we drove from the campsite to the car park at the top of Kemmel Straight, only about a KM but meant we could carry more stuff. Was happy to pay the 10 euros and even when we left after the race, we did go on to the track so probably didn't leave the track until at least an hour after the flag, we could luckily just squeeze back into the campsite before it backed up and could see the solid traffic on the main road until very late at night!

Even on saturday that road is a no go.

True, but there are several million trees (I could be looking at this from a male perspective).
This may come as a surprise, but even men poo.

You swine, OP. I saw your post this morning, and booked the ferry, hotel in Brussels, grandma for the kids and race day tickets by early afternoon.

Taking the M140 on it's first Euro trip!
From Brussels to Spa is an hour and 40 minutes on a day with no traffic.

This would be akin to going to the British GP and electing to stay in a hotel in Birmingham, in distance terms.
Okay

Have you ever driven in Belgium?

Brussels is a safe bet for a place to stay as if I was in the UK I would find somewhere closer to silverstone as I know the area and I can speaka da englicsh
It's generally a safe bet that if you don't have anything logical to say but disagree with the point, you will attack the poster.

Play the man, not the ball? fk off.

In any case, I lived Lille (France, but on the Belgian border) for 6 months, and have driven through Belgium umpteen times, as well has having been to the Belgian GP (driving to it).
Thing is I live in Brussels (been here a year now) so why would I stay somewhere closer?? Just driving in Belgium isnt the same in the UK as you full well know, I was just commenting on the fact of their crappy attitude to driving.

In the UK I would drive to Silverstone from where I live which is probably the same distance as Brum to Silverstone and I will be driving to Monza from Brussels for the next GP

I have just got my tickets Bronze entry tickets for the GP from VIAAGOGO and they cost 220 euro all in and collecting from Camping 25 at 0930 on the day, but called a guy who has GOLD VIP1 tickets for the Sunday which includes VIP parking all for Grand!!!!(Euro) which for a days package for 2 wasnt too bad. So if these tickets come off I will have 2 spare Sunday tickets up for Grabs??

I know. I used to live in Overijse. I fancied a stop off in Brussels on the way, if that's ok with you? smile

Anyway, the M140 has been binned off for an M3 (which has just had its running in service), so all's good.

Just got to look out for the speed cameras in Belgium....

Wow that will be a nice trip out in the M3, those cars in BE are only available to to the wealthy as the yearly car tax of around 6000 Euro depending where you live usually puts a lot of people off.

What colour is it Jane? Ill look out for you?

I've camped a couple of times and commuted from both Leuven and Brussels by train and bus.

I love camping, but had bad experiences at the campsites I tried. At the Elephant site, the car was broken into and things taken from the boot. The official "green" campsite was mega noisy and the cleanliness of the facilities rather hit and miss.

The journey in from Leuven involves a train ride of less than an hour to Verviers, then a shuttle bus to the circuit. It's really not too bad and I would do it again if accommodation closer to the circuit proved difficult to find or too expensive. It's really no different to staying in Milan when going to Monza.

Hi - just looking for advice on driving to the circuit and how bad the traffic will be.

We are staying about an hour's drive from the circuit and have parking booked in the green car park, so I'm wondering how long I need to allow for the drive in on the Saturday and the Sunday so as to get a reasonable viewing spot for the family.

Also any idea how bad the traffic is getting out after the race as I need to be in Bruges by about 10pm on the Sunday night?

Hopefully someone on here will know - although most of you seem to be camping!

Thanks

I looked at taking a helicopter from Leige to the circuit, it was only 2200 Euro! for 2 peeps

There are bus services from all major stations in Brussels on Sunday morning. I think I will take one of them as they are free.

The train seemed a bit of a faff and I have to pick tickets up from one of the campsites in the morning, early night on Saturday!

I have heard the traffic is horrendous, Brugge is a nightmare at the best of times 2 and a bit hours from Brussels. You can go on google maps and put in times you are leaving and see what the journey was like last year?

The campsite we used last year overlooked the main round south of the track. Even with them changing the road layout the traffic was still solid from the end of the race until 10/11PM. Saturday morning shouldn't be too bad but is bad after qualifying.

Thanks both

Traffic sounds ridiculous, but we'll just have to live with it.
I'll let our hotel in Bruges know we'll be late arriving so that we don't lose the room!
