Riccardo did a great job today, the overtake on Kimi came from so far back.

My God, Merc don't half make up some boring 1-2s. Thought we'd had enough of these in the last few years. But apparently not! grumpy

The race for other positions was good. Surprised how quickly Bottas dispatched the Merc customers. I'd have expected Ocon atleast to put up a fight.
I've just seen the recorded highlights. I thought the couple of shots of the helicopter were good.

Not the most thrilling of races, in fact not a full 'highlights' programme. It seemed quite exciting towards the end with the RBs closing, but without live timing it was neutered.

The battle between the RB drivers that I promised didn't quite materialise. Also no challenge in the Merc and Ferrari teams.

Not as I expected. I thought Ferrari would be a lot closer, so I'm a bit disappointed. Further back down the field there was excitement, but I thought that Massa might have asked for a go against Ocon. I thought his last half of the last lap challenge on his team mate might have cost both of them their position.

One thing. Did Vettel's meandering at the chicane really damage his car or was he just playing to the spectators?

I feel a bit cheated but had I not had a previous arrangement I would have bought Now! for the weekend. I'm glad I didn't. I had no idea there was a 150 minute delay in the qually until Steve Jones mentioned it. I would have not been able to see Q3 live. I would have been ticking.

Let's hope for something better at Singapore.

Lance Stroll impressed me this weekend - very good qually in difficult conditions and no mistakes in the race. He may not have the natural talent of Ocon but I'd say he's now proved himself worthy of an F1 seat.

Yes, think he has just about got the measure of Massa now.

I really like the kid, seems like a nice young guy but I'm not sure where that gets you in F1. It may a be a confidence thing of course after his inauspicious start to the year but he gave up P2 at the start and only seemed to try and defend against Massa at the end.

He could of course have been told by the team to simply not get in the way and make sure he grabbed some points for the championship but I'd have liked to have seen a little more fight. Surprisingly I thought the same about Ocon today as well, maybe he was told the same.

Nice to see them both up at the front though, always seems like a changing of the guard when you see the kids come through.

It does make me chuckle when Hamilton refers to the "new young guys". smile

I guess things just change quicker in F1

He's had 10 years at the end of this season though, incredible eh? That's a hell of a career in professional sport, not to mention the pinnacle of your chosen sport.

Hopefully many more to come.

Yes, the race wasn't too exciting - but the qualifying was fantastic in those changing conditions! IMHO LH delivered a masterclass in how to do it!

And whatever they all say about Sunday being another day being at the front is still priceless, especially when your title rival is 6th on the grid!

It was LHs to lose - nobody could get close apart from Valtteri, but he was never going to risk derailing an LH win! He needs a contract renewal! laugh

Not a classic, this years cars don't seem that impressive round here for whatever reason. Ricciardo the most underrated driver still. Watching the sky feed, Crofty still shouting, saying what he sees, talking over brundle, but what's new, maybe that's what the producers want. Could do with new topics of convo other than tyres like the old days, when they discussed handling and braking etc, or maybe the cars are all clones now.

Is that it then? Hamilton will no doubt win another championship which means we only have to pay limited attention to the rest of the season now?

Singapore next, so good opportunity for Seb to grab the lead again, but my money has been on Lewis since Baku.

Massa looked pretty racey for the first time in a while yesterday he certainly didn't hold back with the overtakes.

Fair play to Stroll he's definitely improving and his quali performance was a genuine piece of top driving, more of that and he'll show he's worthy of F1. It does seem like he needs a bit more confidence when it comes to late braking, he could've held positions earlier on if he did that.

Driver of the day has to be Ricciardo though, that was a computer game style drive

Computer game style? Yes, I think it was from F1 2008.

If only it was that simple.

I think this one will go down to the wire, barring technical failures from either team.

I reckon that technical failures are most likely to ensure it goes down to the wire.

Merc were on cruise control yesterday, and I thought that the 'damage' caused to Vettel's car was very convenient and probably amounted to nothing other than the realisation that there was no way the Ferrari could get on terms with Bottas and Hamilton.

Both teams have to husband their engines. Spa was, according to Hamilton, a real effort so the engine must have taken a bit of a pounding. The same must have gone for Vettel.

Little chance of a Sunday drive from now on I should think. I reckon both drivers will suffer penalties in the run down to the final flag.

Haven't Ferrari admitted they will at some point have to take penalties, not so sure Mercedes are at that stage yet or they know they will have to?
