I seem to remember that you need to be about 1.5 seconds a lap faster than the car in front to have a good chance of keeping up and passing at Singapore which is why the race is often kinda rubbish and the competition is played out in strategy / pit lane only.

There are no questionable drivers up the front so I can't imagine anything dramatic happening into turn 1 among the front runners so I think that'll secure the finishing order save for reliability issues which are likely to hobble at least one of them.
Have you forgotten a certain mr. verstappen?

You dont think maybe the changes like wider tyres that have shown more overtakes at other traditionally processional races might help here a bit?

I'm about 4 miles from the track and a nice thunderstorm is rolling through right now. So there probably be damp patches offline for the race as I doubt the sun will come out to dry it all away
I'd prefer fully wet rather than dry line but that might add interest anyway
Has there ever been a wet race at Singapore, I should imagine it would be a nightmare with it being in the dark with artificial lighting.
It's Singapore that is supposed to have the random glitches on the cars too?

Agreed, I think Kimi is just about the most correct driver out there.

Should be an interesting race, absolute stonker of a lap from Seb though in Q3. Whether that transforms to race pace, however....who knows!

lights out at 1pm in the UK, right?

If you had to put trust in anyone, then he and Alonso I'd say. Is it a coincidence that they are the oldest, I wonder?

We are going to need something dramatic to happen at the start to make this race interesting. If Vettel gets a clean start, the way the Ferrari works at Singapore and his innate ability at this circuit will mean an easy afternoon for him barring any mechanical gremlins. The Bulls should be able to keep P2/P3 and it will be a procession.

My hope is one of the Bulls can jump Vettel and then we will have a more interesting race at the front. Another thing to watch for is a good result from McLaren as if the car can keep going I reckon the are in with a chance of a P7/P8 finish or higher if there is some attrition. I'm not a massive fan of Alonso the man, but as a driver I still feel he is top of the tree.... would be great to see him drag the donkey to a good finish. Vandorne too, he is a better driver than we are able to see right now.

Lewis is very sensibly looking at damage limitation. He will, I feel, settle for getting off the line with no dramas and collecting a P4/P5 .... bet he wishes he'd not given that place back to Bottas now.... bet Mercedes do too. Thing is he knows this will be Mercedes worst circuit out of the remainder and with Malaysia, Japan and USA up soon he will have the chance to show what the W08 can do.... he cannot afford any more issues though.

Unlikely, current weather forecast is that is the end of the rain. The low black clouds coming in 2 hours ago when I was having a swim, along with the thunder in the distance are gone. And I can see patches of blue sky.

I predict Hamilton takes it easy into T1, Bottas rear ends hamilton, Toto's fist goes apoplectic.

Both Red Bulls tangle...

Vettel sails off to victory.

The merc management obviously didnt like it, but lewis knew exactly what he was doing and what the implications were. He simply isnt "like" certain other drivers.

My dread scenario is that Lewis gets alongside Kimi on the dirtier side, they enter turn 1 together and Kimi does Seb a huge favour and takes out Lewis. banghead
Both Lewis and Kimi are far too experienced and respectful of each other and the bigger picture, to take each other out.
Who would you rather be alongside at T1 : Kimi or Max?

I doubt there will be anything to stop Vettel other than a poor call from the pits. The (first?) pace car could cause all sorts of squabbles as to whether to bring him in for softs. If it is the wrong call and he gets stuck midfield and the RBs, or LH (unlikely?) go off into the distance, the race might well be over for him. On the other hand, stay out and one of the RBs drops into the pits, or possibly LH, then the balance of the race could change.

We need pace cars to spice things up a bit but I think there are two factors which will fundamentally affect the race: the first corner and the strategy.

Other than that Vettel will be off, and deservedly so. But there still could be all sorts of excitement behind. What frame of mind with the RB drivers be in? Combative (competitive just didn't seem to cut it) or strategic? Let's hope they both make the first lap and it settles into a bit of a ding dong.

LH will be looking to get in front of Kimi so there's possible fun there. LH's starts haven't been too bad of late and he's on the good side, although, of course, it has rained so it will all be a bit green. Vettel must get a good start so the pressure's on him. Once that's over it's a coast to the flag. But he'll know it. He must be confident after that blinding lap in qually but I bet that drains a bit when the red lights come on.

If I were LH (if only I'd been in when the call came) I'd concentrate of getting through the first corner, leaning on Kimi if possible, and then hoping/expecting one or more of the RBs to fail on this, the longest race in the calendar. Third would be a brilliant result given how poor the Mercs have been.

Or it could be the biggest borefest since the last one.

I've hurt my back and can't get in a car so I'm on my own for the race. My mates will phone and text but it's not the same. On the bright side, one's a Ferrari supporter and he'll be unbearable if Vettel clears off into the distance.

I don't think there will be anything dramatic at the first corner due to the nice big run off areas.
Any driver feeling the squeeze can drive off the track both inside and outside the first corner to avoid it.

I want to see a seb v max ding dong again. Those are always entertaining.

Also are Ferrari going to be so obvious and use Kimi as a rear gunner to block any charge by Lewis? Or will they let him race the red bulls, assuming he has the pace.

I suppose all this will be answered as everything settles and the cars come round for lap 2.

It's never stopped them before. Run off areas means a loss of places and for those at the front, I think, it will mean a disaster.

Hopefully, those in midfield and beyond might be a bit more constrained.

We'll see of course.

I just get so infuriated when I can see the accident seconds before it happens and yet I know the driver will not do the sensible thing. Their team managers must grind it into them before the start but once the clutch is dropped so is good sense.

Perhaps I'm being pessimistic. Let's hope it isn't realistic.

Fair play to her (and to Lewis as well)
He really doesn't like talking to the media pre-race but it was great to see the interaction between him and Vettel.

Well, we have a very different view compared to the drivers so it's very easy to say things like that.
