that's quite unusual is it not?
Was the track cooling?

The interviewer should have asked seb if he was worried about meeting max in T1 rather than danny.

Max to take out Seb in turn 1, Ricciardo to win, I don't care about the rest.

A few drivers went faster without improving their position (Vettel, Ricciardo, Alonso?) while Hulkenberg improved enough to jump the McLarens.

I think a coming together between the two RBs drivers is the most likely outcome at the first corner, with Max on the dirty side. If Seb moves over to block him then Ricc will be alongside his team mate. I would assume there will be words before the start tomorrow from RB management, which neither driver will pay any attention to.

A long race for those with less than reliable engines, so one RB out at some time, and both McLs.

Is the 0.7 gap lewis - bottas their true talent gap?

Max and Danny are in a great position here. They've been fast every session. I predict no shenanigans between them. Keep it clean at T1 and both should be on the podium (maybe with a split strategy to see if they can put Seb under some pressure).

Send first laps in Q3 was brilliant. I guess they had been sandbagging a little earlier on as that was some serious pace. Big gap between Seb and Kimi, Big gap between Lewis and Valtteri.

There isn't going to be much (any?) overtaking at the front. But if they can at least keep each other under pressure there is every chance of one or two big names in the wall.

Verstappen will almost certain take out Vettel (and himself) within the first few corners unless Vettel can make a fantastic start and pull away cleanly.

Impossible to say, some drivers just don't get on with some circuits.

Hate to say it but fair play Seb, that was a stonking lap. Hope the red bulls have something for him in the race...both of them will be very hungry. Think Lewis can hope for 4th at best really

Danny Ric seems pretty convinced they've got better race pace and looking at the FP2 times I wouldn't be too surprised. Seb is going to be clenching big time going into turn 1 with Danny and (particularly) Max behind him, sometimes gets a bit over ambitious that boy.

Agree, if the RBRs have better race pace Seb can't beat both of them if they split strategy. Whoever loses out will be spitting feathers though.

Fascinating to see if they can work together or if it ends in tears at T1.
I agree with you. I hope you feel pleased about that.

I've been thinking what the strategies would be if (as if there's any doubt) there's a pace car. If it's early, one RB could be called in leaving the other to run free. If Vettel pits for tyres then he's going to be behind a few cars and, given the difficulty of overtaking, the RB in front might well be able to put a fair few seconds between him and Vettel. If Vettel doesn't pit, then there could be all sorts of problems later.

Then what about the second pace car?

I'm not sure what the Mercs could do. It would be a disaster for LH if they split the strategies and Bottas got a good result, and finished in front of LH.

It's all too complicated for me.

I don't like the circuit. It could be a procession with LH not wanting to mix it too much early on and Bottas being deputised to keep the hoi poloi at bay. Then Merc waiting for one of the RBs to throw a rod through the crankcase. So Vettel getting full points and LH getting fourth or, if Kimi does something untoward, 3rd. Or we could be waiting for the car in front to run into tyre trouble if strategies are forced by an early pace car.

Or, of course, we could have the situation where the pace car throws everyone into a panic by not coming out at all.

And no one's mentioned the super softs. How long will these last? Could a team further down the grid, like Magnus or Grosj throw a spanner into the works by running them?

The most likely time for a pace car is early on in the race. Too soon for an effective tyre change? Or it could be towards the end where exhaustion comes into play. Someone hits the wall and the car with the dodgy tyres but out in front gets a free pass to the podium.

Or it could be boring.

I hope, I really hope, that the two RBs stay on circuit for some time and the two guys battle it out. I've been waiting all season for that.

The thing is I don't think the Red Bulls will be able to stay close (in order to keep their tyres) enough to the Ferrari to make their race place count, plus DR will be trying to get around MV which could allow SV to just get away.
