Yes the Renault V10 WAS the most powerful engine during the period WILLIAMS had them.

By the time Reb Bull reached Successville V10s were history, they had Reggies V8...
OK then the Renault V8 WAS the most powerful engine smile
I thought the Mercedes always had the edge on outright power in Red Bull's championship years, hence Force India always going particularly well at Spa...
Exactly... Mercedes engine was more powerful than Renaults but the Red Bulls, stuffed full of Newey magic, were a better overall package. They were never the fastest through the speed traps but excelled in the twisty stuff and had great traction out of the corners.
Look what's going on this weekend, only free practice I know but RBR racing are up there with less power. No one would be surprised if they win on Sunday.
A Renault engine which did this was a not insignificant part of that. It still surprises how scathing Horner was only a year into the new formula. I can only assume that they thought they had a serious plan B at the time.

Exactly... the blown defused, Newey magic. Between him and Renault, no other team could make it work as well. Williams in particular struggled with it.
I would've loved to have seen Horner's face the moment he learned Renault were offski.

Horner on C4 just now.

"We have Tag Heuer branded Renault engines for 2018, anything after that is speculation"

Then...

"We're in a perfect position to see how Honda develop with Toro Rosso"

It would be hilarious if honda get it together, red bull take honda engines next season, and win both championships.

It would be, but it would be just as funny seeing them at the back of the grid while McLaren are mixing it with the top 4.

As ever it's the drivers I feel for. At least Button and Alonso had glory days to look back on. But F1 has rairly been universally just.

Red Bull still running Renault engines next season wink. But yes, if it happened in 2019... that would be ironic. Mclaren had no choice though. They don't have the time or money to wait for Honda to come good.... or not!

Can't see Danny Ric and Max being very happy about this. Of course knowing Alonso's luck, Honda will probably have an epic engine next year, fitted in probably the best chassis.
My thoughts too
The engine in the red bull is better/ same as the works Renault? Or in truth as similar as makes no difference? The point being that in the red bull a reanault unit is competitive if not quite Ferrari/ merc quick. If the mclarens a good chassis it's not inconceivable that next year macca could nick a couple of victories.

Macca bagged RBRs chief aero guy, Mark Prodromou, in 2014... He's was actually returning to Mclaren
https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/117208/prodromou...

The Red Bull engine is a TAG badge Renault engine and has parity with Renaults factory Team.
Mclarens deal is deeper than a just engine supply and support

Peter, not Mark.

And make no mistake, McLaren are a customer team, not a works team. The rest is all just marketing flannel.

Peter Prodromou wasn't RBR's chief aero guy. Adrian Newey was and still is.

Peter Prod is very good, but so are a lot of other people in F1.
