My wife and I both enjoy our F1, and the US race over in Austin is very much on our bucket list.

The 2018 race falls on the first Sunday of October half term week, so we'd likely be arriving in Austin on Saturday of the race weekend.

Normally we do Silverstone over 3 days, would we miss out on a lot of we rocked up on race day only for the US event?

I would say take a bit more time there, Austin is a brilliant city! Don't miss out! Lots of great food, evening entertainment etc.

Sorry should have been clearer.

We'd fly in on the Saturday and have a week in Texas, flying home the following Saturday night. Race on the Sunday.

Well you'd not only miss both Friday practise sessions but from what I recall of previous years, the city really goes all out in the week before the event.
I'd say you'd be missing an awful lot to be honest and I'd probably give it a miss on that basis.

You'll miss a huge amount by only doing one day. But you'll still have a great day. Personally I'd target heading over when you can spend three or four days around Austin and three days at the track. I went in 2014 and we did two weeks exploring Texas and Louisiana with three days at the track. That worked pretty well - it's a great event and a really cool place to explore.

better to plan the itinerary of your trip so you'll know how to spend your time there

I’d want to be there and jet lag free. It’s 6 hrs time difference, going to hurt at the after race party.
