All this talk about max and track limits is interesting but did anyone else see the weird eagle shadow that flew across turn 1 on lap 48?

Some superimposed 'murica-ness or do they have giant birds in Texas??
I thought I saw that, and then decided I must have imagined it....
I did wonder about that too. But it was the polar opposite in size to the spider running along the handrail on the podium when Takuma Sato was interviewing Hamilton in Suzuka. Did anyone else notice that?

Great video but shows pretty clearly he’s about 50cm off track!

Me too. I dismissed it as a poor glance at a helicopter shadow.

I've just been lurking on another F1 forum that's 95% american. They think the introduction shower of ste was the greatest thing ever. I don't mind it for the US GP but fking hell I hope it doesn't reappear next weekend in Mexico.
Nothing more than a bald eagle that has just devoured a sheep reared on steroids. When I saw it I was taken back a bit as well.

Hamilton seems to be getting more childlike by the week. A little bizarre. Looked like he had a crush on Bolt.

the comments of Verstapen wishing the fans not to come back for the race next year is a poorly.

Yeah but it isn't a great defence for Max is it? Bottas probably should have been forced to give the position up. Consistency is the issue not the penalty which was a slam dunk in my eyes.
Wel he did give the position up or rather Daniel got past him at the next corner anyway so there was no lasting advantage.

All that verstappen means is that he wishes their was some consequence of the FIA's repeated inability to ensure consistency in its stewarding. There is no-one to hold them to account and they rarely seem to display the level of self-awareness required to criticise themselves and improve. see above photograph, plus many others, for evidence of their low and variable standards.

I'm guessing this was acceptable then?

There is a steward called Garry Connelly who is, to put it mildly, not well-liked among the F1 community. Like others have said, it's the inconsistency of decisions that makes it farcical. Kimi didn't even really know why Max was penalised.

I remember seeing Ricciardo cutting the track massively near the beginning of the race while fighting with Bottas - why is this OK when it suits?

Charlie Whiting has briefed for the last 2 (?) years that opening lap(S) will be treated differently. I think it's until DRS is available, but I don't attend drivers briefings.

Yesterday's decision may have been technically correct by the stewards but it makes a sight mockery of "racing" as a sport.

The issue is that the tracks have become too benign. As many ex-drivers mentioned, bring the grass to the other side of the kerbs and you effectively self-govern the matter as the consequences of exceeding track limits is more stark.

I think that would be a backward step in terms of safety but it would be good to see something done to stamp it out a little.

Interesting seeing that Sainz image above and I am in no doubt whatsoever that many drivers gained advantage either defending or passing in turn 1.

It is still poorly expressed. If there is one driver in the last 2 years who has benefited of the stewards leniency on rules, it's him. For once things don't go his way and his is coming out with very poor comments.

He didn't actually benefit from this - and if he'd managed to make it stick, he'd more than likely have had to give the place back.

Here on Dutch tv, in an official interview for the broadcaster, Max just called the steward ‘een mongool’ i.e. someone with Down syndrome.

He might be angry, he might be young and the Dutch tolerate bad language more than most but he had better be careful, the FIA might take exception to his language there.........
Ooh, lots of people will not like that.
it's a standard swear word in Dutch. We don't see it as ebing even half as bad you Brits see the word c*** for example.

He didn’t complete the over take. Max did.

Many tracks rely on multi use - cars, bikes, etc. One reason they don't want gravel or grass is that it has a tendency to flip bikes.
