The logo may breach a trademark application with 3M made in February 2017 for 3M Futuro compression tights

"A 3M spokesman said: “3M filed a US trademark application for the Futuro logo on Feb 20 2017. Also, we have not had any discussions about the logo with the other party. We are looking into this matter further.”

The filing gives 3M precedence as F1 didn’t lodge the application for its new logo until November and EU authorities are still deciding whether to register it."
Oh dear. All they had to do was design a stylised ‘F’ and they couldn’t even do that with originality........

Never mind.

There's no such thing as truly original design. Everything, in some way shape or form, is inspired by what went before, whether intentional or subconsciously.

There's sufficient similarity here for 3M to raise an eyebrow but sufficient difference for it to be a non-issue; particularly as there is no conflict in terms of marker and business type.

Whatever.

In any case, F1 may not mind it’s logo being associated with support stockings.......

Actually this IS an important issue. Teams/engineers don't like weight high up in the chassis and the pressure on drivers to minimize their weight was starting to become a health concern, especially at some of the hot races where pre-race hydration to counter sweating during the race was being compromised to keep weight down.
