It may be a good idea to get in contact with Neil Trundel as I think he still runs the McLaren Historic section.

Though there is the over riding question of, “why do you want this data?”
Very good point, as these cars are not exactly road cars.

Do McLaren ever sell their old race cars or do they retain ownership of them all ?
Pretty sure that McLaren never sell them, at least that was the case for most of the Ron Dennis era.
They have sold at least one as Zak Brown bought Hakkinen's British GP winning MP4-16 a few years ago but that may be the only exception.

A collection of early McLarens came up for auction a few years ago. I think that they had been owned by Philip Morris via their Marlboro sponsorship. However, the auction never took place as McLaren purchased the entire collection.

That will be Zak Brown the current Executive Director of MTG.

Not seen but would be fairly sure in betting that there are some fairly significant clauses in that sale contract and almost certainly a preemption on resale.

There's one in Frankfurt currently. Couldn't tell you what year though.

Correct although the purchase took place more than a year before he joined McLaren. They must have sold another one at some point as according to Brown only one other collector owns a 'West' era McLaren and that is Adrian Newey. Brown says it is a Kimi Raikkonen car which surprises me as I would have thought he was more likely to own a 1998 or 1999 car. However, knowing Ron Dennis, the more successful the car the less likely they are to sell it.

I would be absolutely certain that McLaren have first refusal.

A West car by the looks of things. Couldn't begin to identify it though.

EDIT - MP4/16 from 2001 apparently.

EDIT 2 - looking at it it's a 15 from 2000.

You wouldn't have got away with that trailing cable and the car not being exactly in the centre of the display in Ron's day....

Or the orange one at the front right not be centred on the circle.

Apologies, that's the one I meant. Badly written sentence - that's what happens when I should be working....

I was party to installing a centralised cutting fluid management system at Woking, when the Paragon Centre was still a huge hole in the ground. The return side of the system is generally fed by gravity, so the pipes tend to have to go downhill slightly. Nope, not allowed to look even slightly skew, even though they were under the main floor and in the basement, well out of the the eye line of visitors. Took some designing, that one did.

Could have been worse though, one of the 'streets', B I think, had to be completely relaid with the white tiles, as they weren't quite in line with the lights above them.

Not true. One example being a certain Zac Brown. Good client of theirs...

Ah I see I was too late, others have posted. Neil Trundle is kept busy running several other cars for clients too. He is your best source for information, but I’d recommend you try to talk to him at one of the events, rather than contact him via other means. He’s always at the GFoS and ran Zac’s Mika car at the Silverstone Classic in 2016.

I’d also add that I was told that a lot of the F1 cars that were distributed to the dealers upon the launch of the 12C were showcars/replicas.

Have you ever noticed the doorhandles on the cloaks cupboard under Ron’s office?...

No. Never got that far along the concourse. (except below ground level - but it's not as pretty down there!)

I love the attention to detail in the main building, but the lack of any colour would drive me batty. I used to get snow blind just spending a working day below ground level seeing nothing but white and grey. Even our machinery had to be painted, before being inspected by an engineer from McLaren, to ensure not only the correct paint code was used, but it reflected within the approved range of gloss units. They travelled to Sweden just to check this, prior to the equipment being shipped to Woking (very carefully!) Bare in mind, other customers could only chose between green, blue and beige and that was good enough for them.
