New car reveals
Discussion
Mark Priestley the ex Mclaren engineer and part time pundit on the Sky F1 midweek report has started doing some interesting Youtube videos looking at the technicalities of each of the designs, worth a watch if you like to try to understand the engineering side of things

It’s been hard enough in recent years to identify the drivers as they sit so low in the cockpit. Now it’s next to impossible.
Thank god for everyone having their numbers printed on the sides and in some cases their 3-letter names code eh?ELUSIVEJIM said:
To be fair F1 drivers change their helmets far too often anyway so it's near impossible to know at times.
I really hate that as a helmet was the stand out feature.
They also implemented a a rule in 2016 to say that the drivers had to have the same helmet all year round (minor changes, like sponsors are allowed) and are only allowed to have a completely new helmet for one race once in the season.I really hate that as a helmet was the stand out feature.
Might just be that I've looked into it in the most detail but the Ferrari appears to have a lot of little changes from last years car and seems to feature more interesting aero features.
Or...they've just not kept their cards as close to their chest and kept things off the car until testing!

Usual launch-spec stuff.Or...they've just not kept their cards as close to their chest and kept things off the car until testing!
The McLaren launch car has nothing at all under the front wing (it's completely bare - no strakes or anything) - so it's a totally non-functional item.
Interesting. Little turning veins on top of the side-pods but no cross-member sitting just in front of/above them like the other cars have.
Are they allowed to mount the mirrors on the halo? They look very close to them and you'd have thought it would leave an aerodynamically cleaner area over the tops of the side-pods and hence up to the rear wing than having a strut.

Doesn’t look as neat as the Ferrari and Mercedes to my eyes at the rear end, the Mercedes definitely looks a tighter package.
Other than that, jeez, the lack of sponsors is like last years Sauber! They could have at least put McLaren Automotive on it to liven it up!
Also, the orange. I’m sorry but orange means nothing to me regarding McLaren-I wasn’t even born when they last raced in F1 with it.

It’s quite sad to see mclaren devoid of sponsors! It just shows why they needed to break from Honda!
The damage they’ve done to the mclaren brand is unbelievable until you see the car and no sponsors on it!
I also like how simple it looks maybe the lack of physical aero might make it quicker (less drag)

Can't stand the McLaren in this orange and blue - it's like something tasteless Scmhee150 / Youtuber would put on one of his cars )
So far from the class, they used to demonstrate on their liveries with the chrome + Voda colours over the last couple of decades...
Hopefully, this is some kind of tactic and when they start winning again they'll go back to having a decent livery :-)

You think orange and blue looks tacky because it's the sort of colour scheme that people would put on their road cars to make them stand out, but chrome doesn't?
I like the orange. It's a nice bright cheerful colour compared to the sober blandness of the front-running teams.
Not just for that reason.. orange and blue are challenging colours to work with, my opinion is that the current colour scheme is garish and tacky. The I like the orange. It's a nice bright cheerful colour compared to the sober blandness of the front-running teams.
chrome wasn't in-your-face it was a base treatment which served the highlight colours well.
