New car reveals
Discussion
Personally I don't like the blue, but what is it with F1 fans, nigh on 4 years we've been asking for Papaya orange back, we got a bit of it last year, this year McLaren show the world that we listen to the fans, you want papaya orange, here it is.
Yes the blue doesn't suit it, but I can live with it all day long for the orange, love it, love it, love it!!!!!
Looks fantastic and great to see it back in F1, if you wanted orange and complaining about the blue, then you really need to stop complaining so much, it's papaya orange on a McLaren FFS!

It’s quite sad to see mclaren devoid of sponsors! It just shows why they needed to break from Honda!
The damage they’ve done to the mclaren brand is unbelievable until you see the car and no sponsors on it!
I also like how simple it looks maybe the lack of physical aero might make it quicker (less drag)

Interesting. Little turning veins on top of the side-pods but no cross-member sitting just in front of/above them like the other cars have.
Are they allowed to mount the mirrors on the halo? They look very close to them and you'd have thought it would leave an aerodynamically cleaner area over the tops of the side-pods and hence up to the rear wing than having a strut.
I've just looked at this and come to the conclusion that the mirror supports are being used as turning vanes on the new car: they are massive compared to the previous set.Are they allowed to mount the mirrors on the halo? Compare the MCL32 and 33 in the side elevation view and you'll see what I'm looking at.
Who gives a flying feck about colours & liveries?Or how the back end/front doesn't look right/visually balanced, in your eyes. Surely function is paramount, or are you all going to discuss deviated stitching like the GT3 & Rennlist forums.
FWIW, orange has some history at McL, whether you were born or not.

Ah yes, I hadn't spotted that on the side-view. I guess they're trying to push air away from the messy area where the back of the halo meets the car. ghost83 said:

Didn’t realise that tbh but maybe it’s just because there’s not a few a colours to break it upThe Dell logo is so small and low down it's almost like a technology partner one on the RBR or Ferrari strip down there.
I note that Kimoa is on both the bargeboards and the nose. That's Alonso's company, I suppose he's contributing some dosh to the team this year through that.

Usual launch-spec stuff.
The McLaren launch car has nothing at all under the front wing (it's completely bare - no strakes or anything) - so it's a totally non-functional item.
It really is, expect to see a lot more bolted on to that in testing! The McLaren launch car has nothing at all under the front wing (it's completely bare - no strakes or anything) - so it's a totally non-functional item.
Also just noticed that the Renault engine must have come with an aero cat!

McLaren launch blather video (they invited Sky to Navarra apparently) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6cwZ_s8HYs
Warning: audio sounds like it was recorded from the camera rather than the microphone. It sounds amateurish, lots of background noise on the feed.

Nando will take the car out first.
Norris will also get a run in it.
No word on Stoff, but he's there too and I think it'd be odd if he wasn't in the car at some point today too.
Navarra is a smidge under 4km long, so there's scope for 25 laps in total today (within the FIA 100km promo day limit)
Edit: and just as I typed that, Alonso took the first lap.

Maybe they’ve got some tricks and they don’t want to show them off yet
Those small inlet ducts on the side of the nose look very different. Also gives it a shark nose with gills look. (3/4 view)I don't see an S-duct exit on the car yet.

a different approach from mcl to everyone else with the air intake, very small, no visible splits so I assume they'e routing air through the sidepods to cool the turbo/electrical gubbins.
It looks like a similar solution to the RB14, to me.I think when we get to see the rear of the cars, the RB14 and MCL33 cooling exits will be similar.
A short video of the MCL33 leaving the pits.

Yup. RBR-style cooling package.
Also I note the back of the rear wing sports a massive Kimoa logo.
I wonder how much of McLaren's 2018 funding is coming from Fernando.
