A bit of advice needed from the faithful as hopefully my sabbatical comes to an end and I’m rusty.Going to autosport and need a new helmet and HANS, had a bell sport3 which I liked but it’s now out of date. Looking at sport5 with HANS but open to suggestions as I’ve never used them before. Do you need specific belts? Mine are 3’’ lap and shoulder dated to 2018 but I see there are HANS specific ones now. Do I need these too?

Overalls are current spec and in good condition I assume they are not lifed, can’t find anything in blue book.

Any advice appreciated.

Are you sure your helmet is out of date? Check the blue book. I thought Snell SA was valid for five years after issue but the expiry is often postponed (SA2015 already extended to 2023 IIRC)

You can use HANS with 3" belts (I did this season) but given the choice you want 2" shoulder straps really. You have to be very careful that the 3" straps are tightened within the 'wings' which keep the belts on the HANS.

I had TRS belts and unfortunately although they were in date until 2019 the FIA hologram on the label had entirely worn off which tends to raise eyebrows. Other than that scrutineering is the same as ever (Incredibly thorough at Snetterton!)

Hi Cliff, how about the Simpson Hybrid device and compatible Helmet.
I've been using this last season and found it really good, comfortable, secure and less restrictive feeling than the HANS stuff i tried.

Good to hear you're planning on racing again - will it be with tyour T350 and DTEC TVR's ?

ETA : it's used with the original size harnesses , rather than narrower HANS type

Thanks for input guys. I can’t see snell 2000 in blue book 2017, I think an upgrade is in order as safety kit has moved on a lot since I bought mine in 2004!

Daz, must admit a bit concerned about Hans and vision restriction, t350 is also very small and difficult to exit even with the stuff I currently have. Will look at the Simpson.

Plan is to run t350 in dtec if all goes to plan. Cylinder head is with Dom to be fixed after engine ingested a butterfly screw at Anglesey 3 years ago. Joo is sorting suspension. Box back together. Not too far away.

My seat was manufactured in 2006, should I look at changing that too?

No date restriction in the uk. If seat has been in a big shunt prudent to change it as it will have been stressed. Seat needs to be in FIA date with Holigram to race in Europe.
