My son has started his indoctrination plan to get me to start watching Moto GP again, tonight over dinner he was waxing lyrical about the woes of Yamaha and Rossi in particular.

I guess I have my motorsport sorted out for the next wee while smile

Seems I have the complete sports package (non HD), and I'm paying £18 for the privilege. If i remove the rest of it, and keep F1, it'll only cost me £8, plus I'll get to watch it in 4k with my Q box.

So £96 a year to watch all F1 related stuff. Is this pretty much the cheapest you can get it? I only ever really watch quali and the race, but I do like the occasional F1 feature they run exclusively to Sky, so I'll probably keep it.

People should save thier subscription money and get out to the UK circuits and watch more real motor racing in person. You might be surprised how much you enjoy it

If there are channel 4 highlights with the Whisper team, I'll watch. I'm not paying to watch the Sky coverage, I can see why people like it but it's not for me.

It'll be the first season I don't watch in 30 years. frown
As of 2019 it's all under licence to Sky including the broadcast rights to the highlights package. It hasn't yet been confirmed whether Sky will host the highlights package on one of their own free to air channels, like Pick, or allow a 3rd party Freeview provider to show the Sky produced highlights (like BT Sport do with C5 and the Football League highlights, WRC, etc)

TBH given some of the "changes" being implemented by Liberty, mentioned earlier in the thread regarding delayed race starts, background music when something happens (which even Formula E dropped after their second year), etc, i'm honestly not that fussed over watching F1 after this year. I'll happily watch the coverage on C4 again this year (both live & highlights) but I doubt i'll go out of my way to watch it in 2019.

How so?
Is rather watch a cold, windy spa F1 race than be there in person. I've done both.

Well, as a lifelong F1 fan, it’s goodbye from me.

I don’t have SKY and I’m not about to pay Murdoch a cent to watch it. The only upside is that the last few seasons haven’t been doing much to tempt me to keep watching, so the decision is easy. I’ll probably watch whatever happens to be on but I wouldn’t call myself a fan any more.

This is the first year I haven't been bothered about the new season.

With the terrible news the Bernie has sabotaged F1, with no free to air UK coverage after this year, what are your plans ?
Crap sounding, inelegant looking cars, grid girls on the way out ... Just needs speed humps and they'll have achieved the perfect storm of polite apology. Probably won't notice once it's vanished behind the paywall. I'll miss the C4 team though.

I had to check the dates on these posts as I've read and heard the same things for the past few seasons yet people still watch and comment and moan and complain.

I've said it (many times) before. The UK, for advertising in F1 is a mature market with very few brand new customers to advertise to. Some simply won't change their current package/offer/subscription/service/beer/electronics provider etc etc so there's little point in advertising to them. Others are serial changers, switching regularly every year/eighteen months/two years so again, not a huge desire to advertise to these people when they're going to simply take advantage of new customer offers then jump ship again.

Advertisers and sponsors of F1 aren't looking at Europe, despite it still being the core market for F1 fans. They're looking at China, India and the Far East, especially countries where people are earning more and more and their disposable income is increasing. These are the people buying mobiles for the first time, computers, cars, technology, alcohol etc. These countries have FTA TV coverage and will continue to do so for a good while. established countries are almost universally moving to Pay TV coverage because it makes the FIA, Liberty and FOM more money and sponsors just kind of shrug and say that's not where they're focussed on right now.

All true enough, by something of a shame that the business has overtaken the sport.

I would still describe it as a sport but maybe I should just be describing it as a business. A pity.

F1 will survive, it’s mosning on forums I hope will disappear.

Everything is monetised, it’s not Sky’s fault they’re adhering to their business model-they only got it because the BBC decided to ditch it remember?

Last season had more jump out of my chair moments than any I can remember in the last five years.

We have a British world champion at the top of his game.

I’m looking forward to watching every qualifying and race on my big screen at home personally, well apart from Monaco as our seats are already booked again.

Not sure how much my Sky Tv package costs? £500 a year maybe? Damned good value for money in my opinion given the entertainment it provides even if you just calculate that £500 divided by all the hours I watch F1.

Bothered about giving £500 a year to Murdoch’s company confused I can’t think what he’s ever done to offend me?

I'll just watch it via Now TV.

£6.99 a race or something, ~£150 for the year.

That's basically nothing.

I'll miss the Channel 4 coverage, I really don't like the Sky coverage.

I take your point but I don't think I'm being naive to the fact that sport is big business - I'm just lamenting it (a bit - I think there's a probably a sweet spot between grass roots and super-commercial when sports have enough budget behind them to be accessible, and massively mass-market commercial properties).
