3 place grid penalty for Ricciardo, not quite going slowly enough on a red flag lap that was due to a loose wire, and he was going nowhere near it as he was heading to the pits?

Well done F1, 2 sessions in and already fking the first race up!

I suppose you could have additional or inside info here that I haven't seen, however faulty data is not what I took away from the article.
Sorry, ironically my error in speed reading the article!
Was just starting to get jealous about insider info!! hehe

Also agree, the halo has made a mess of the onboard views. Suspect this will be adjusted quite quickly.
Sounds like it cant be changed - regs state that any changes to camera or transponder location must be notified to the teams by 30 june of the previous season

I guess if they got all teams to agree maybe they could change that reg mid season?
Bit of an oversight, keeping the old camera position and sticking a whacking great bar right in front. It's almost as if F1 is being run by a bunch of incompetent idiots - Do they not realise TV coverage is quite important?
The reality is their view will be that this screw up doesn't affect them.

Why do I say this? As far as I am aware, all the major TV markets are tied up in multi-year deals for coverage. If this goes on for 3 races until they get their act together and get it resolved then it really isn't going to affect anything for them.

Nice to see the Horner and Todt deferring to the majesty of Ferrari. Forelock tugging it was not. There was a direct challenge to Liberty as well, ironically so given that Ferrari took one.

And as always there can also be some context to a situation... Or is this only the case if it happens to Lewis?

The context allowed him to get away with only a 3 place grid penalty and 2 points on his licence - he could have been given a much stiffer penalty

To be fair Lewis has had his far of stty calls too. Remember ConeGate at Russia a few years back. Penalised for not going around a cone after running off the track during qualifying despite backing out of the lap and having to turn hard left to go around said come towards the barrier at about 80mph

A note about the tyres;

The Ultrasoft and Supersoft are lower working range compounds, while the Soft is high working range.

From preseason testing, most cars were happier on the medium tyres, which was a high working range tyre even though it was cold and the resurfaced tarmac was much smoother than previously.

It suggests that these cars are working these tyres well, almost too well for the low working range compounds, and we most probably will not see the top 10 qualifying cars pushing hard in the 1st stint like last year (unfortunately).

In practice today it looked like the low working range tyres were having to be nursed over a lap on quali sims .i.e. like old school quali tyres.

Conditions were very warm with track temp in the mid 40 C today, so it could have contributed to cars not extracting as much pace from the softer low working range compounds, apart from the usual sandbags.

Tomorrow and sunday are forecast to be much colder (in the mid 20 C), so today's setup work would have been looking ahead. The pecking order could shuffle quite a bit in the midfield--perhaps even at the sharp end as some cars might work better in the colder temps than others.

The punishment should fit the crime, yes 2-points, perhaps a massive fine, but don’t have a penalty that will, potentially, ruin the race for the home crowd and many fans elsewhere.

Grid penalties suck. This was FP2 not the race, where the danger would be significantly greater.

You could even justify a penalty if he’d gone past the site where there was a danger, but it was on the start finish straight and every single driver had to go back into the pits.

I understand more than 1 driver was punished today for speeding in the pit lane.

What were their punishments? Any grid penalties?

Fanzone interview with most of the team principles yesterday afternoon, with David coulthard, this got a big laugh/clap:

DC: So Claire, is your baby travelling with you?

Claire Williams: are you going to be asking all the men this question too?

Interesting to see them talk/interact when the global tv feeds are off, amusing b!tching little spat between boullier and tost as to who's doing best out of the current engine supply arrangements

I guess if you like sleep, then this morning you're in for a treat because conditions are pretty horrendous for the GT Race. Better now for the V8s though.
