100% agree. The fact that F1 seems to have isolated itself from the rest of motorsport is indicative of its "up its own fundamental" attitude. I didn't even like it when PH decided that F1 needed to be separated from the rest of the motorsport discussions.

Even this thread is called "F1 Past". I would much prefer it to be "Motorsport Past" or at the very least, "Grand Prix Past".
Agree with you both.

Unfortunately F1 has the biggest fan base and if I was to post a thread anywhere else it would be either lost or ignored. I would love to mix things up and have Group B footage or any other clips shown on here. Please post anything Motorsport related

Doubt I can change the name of the thread now however. frown

Not Group B but the WRC with Colin McRae

I was lucky enough to meet and watch the man on many occasions. He was on another level in a car but just took it too far at times.

Huge respect for Rally drivers and their control.

Just to let you know, there is a sticky thread in the Motorsport section supposedly where videos are to be posted.

But of course, "Motorsport" is not F1 - apparently.

It is worrying when you have actually posting a video in the thread but can honestly not remember ever seeing it before.

Scary biggrin

On a side note Nick Whiting "shown in this clip with the yellow Escort special saloon" is Charlie Whiting's brother.

Well at least I think he is.

Shame JYS didn't do more of that in period, although in his day F1 was getting into its professional stride and drivers were less motivated to try out other categories. Jackie himself said that he was always particular about doing non-F1 events, unlike Jim Clark. He said "Jim would drive things I wouldn't even sit in".
Jackie once told the story of spectating at a US stock-car event and being offered a shot in a V8-engined hot-rod. "Forgot my helmet" said Jackie. Offered a spare helmet he replied "forgot my balls as well".

That is a brilliant story.

Perhaps his decisions to not have a go is the reason he is still here smile

I have seen the YouTube footage before but the other two articles are great.

Would cut out the Group B cars from my Uncles Car magazines and stick them to my bedroom walls as a kid.

Brilliant.

Nice clips.

Group B was just on another level. Still love seeing the footage.

Gilles can drive that Porsche with amazing skills. Great to see one on the limit like that.

Thought it was a clip of Gilles Villeneuve in a Porsche before clicking.

Refreshing to see some new clips

You can smell the Brut aftershave and fuel in this clip.

Jochen Mass and not Bellof at Spa 1000 kms.

Unfortunately I think this was the race Bellof died but thankfully no crash footage.

Closest racing finish ever.

1971 Italian GP Monza

I know it's not safe in today's World but I really miss the checkered flag being waved on the track.

Notice the flag waver adjusting his step when the car's come closer biggrin
