Perhaps, the renault v10, was what 750/800 bhp, now I suppose Mercedes and Ferrari are running circa 850/900 bhp (+120/160 equivalent of electrical) and weight wise 700kg (current) to say 500kg (plus lots of fuel biglaugh). so were not talking about massive differences.

The old Turbos (80's) would have 1000 bhp on qualifying mode, on 500kg....

Sadly, its when they took away the bells and whistles in 1994 we lost drivers, perhaps the old way is safer too.

I know one thing (and i have not listened yet) I'm looking forward to the Prost podcast.
If you look back a page it was interesting to hear Mansell talking about the active suspension and how you had to trust the thing when flying into a corner.

Sounds very unnerving but fast.

On the Mansell theme I was at Stowe for qualifying in 92 and although one usually gets inured to the speed of F1cars after a few hours , on his pole lap he was utterly staggeringly fast . It was a 'did I really see that ? ' moment. The story was that he was over 30mph faster than teammate Patrese into the corner - normally I'd dismiss such a difference as absurd but , trackside , it looked it ...

Ricardo Rosset having an absolute stinker of a day in Monaco qualifying and messing up everyone's last final flying lap. Even Murray walker sounds cutting. laugh

Pretty good, but a shame about the coloured graphics on the black and white footage.

But ...err..why ? Coming soon , Nuvolari's rages about his DRS malfunction, Moss on why Q3 went so badly and Fangio talks about tyre management of Engelbert Supersofts ?
