Monaco was excellent today! Albeit a couple of cars crunched to the point I'd say they're dead.. (but in reality they'll be rebuilt yet somehow remain original..) it was a very lovely sunny day of motorsport and the locals were really enjoying it smile
Cars don't die, they are racing cars, they get rebuilt, even in period they had multiple chassis on the same number during a season.

I know, and you know I see them get patched up ahead of rejoining H&H sales floor.. sometimes repeatedly. But once retired shouldn't they be locked in as they are?

It's like an old wall that's fallen down and been rebuilt 20 times though. At what point do we accept the wall is new!?

Now you are being silly. There wouldn't be a single historic car racing if you didn't repair them.

There was some great racing today, although the TV tended to follow the two at the front and more or less ignore the rest.

What did you make of the penalty? He mimed Alesi missing a gear and the slomo seemed to support him.

I know.... But it is a bit daft isn't it? The original car sometimes doesn't exist at all..

It was a great battle (15/16 laps if I remember) these cars just look so right at Monaco, with the size and speed, It felt like the they were lapping cars by the 2nd/3rd lap hehe .

The JPS Lotus was some 2 seconds quicker in Quali, it was a great duel.

The incident, very unfortunate, I’m not sure if it was a missed gear, or Alesi out to much power down and spun the wheels. Very unfortunate for a penalty.

Might make the trip in 2023, the cars are a bit before my time but they look and sound perfect.

What is original? Racing cars are crashed and rebuilt all the time. Is a car that is crashed and rebuilt in its first season of racing half a century ago still original? Is it any different because they are now 'historic'?

We are there - having booked for last year and having entertained hopes for this one , fingers now crossed . I really need to see , and hear, a 312T driven in anger again. Historic F1 has big grids but tends to echo the period of being Formula DFV so V12s are in short supply . Anyone know why we don't see Flavien Marcais's BRM P180 any more? Hearing that whoop and wail into Knickerbrook made me go slightly tingly...

RAI only ever seemed to allocate four cameramen to cover the whole circuit.

The noise - wow.

There was a book written on the development of the Cosworth DFV. It was called "Such Sweet Thunder". I can see now why it was called that.
