And does that support your point that the smoothness of F1 tracks is to facilitate Moto GP ?

True, but I want to introduce an argument that MotoGP actually goes to mostly far more interesting and charismatic tracks than F1 does, with a few exceptions.

Ok so I'll give F1 the benefit of Spa, Monaco, Australia, Cataluna and Canada. But MotoGP goes to Mugello, Assen, Sachsenring, Brno, Philip Island, Misano, Aragon... all amazing circuits.
Out of interest, are any of those F1 rated still? I know mugello used to be a test track.

Even the ones that don't host Moto GP events?
Yeah sure thing Eric, they're going to build a circuit from the ground up to resemble a ploughed field.
Oh, do discuss intelligently please. We've had purpose built racing circuits since 1907 (Brooklands was the first). It's only in the past 20 odd years that there has been a drive to eliminate every bump and dip - whether to facilitate F1 aerodynamics or Moto GP riders' bottoms.

I will when you make some effort Eric, Imola was resurfaced in 1965 for example.
I'm sure many have been resurfaced over their long histories. Indeed, it would be plain stupid to allow tarmac and concrrete to degenerate and crumble away. That is not what I am talking about. I am talking about the recent resurfacings made at the request of teams (whether F1 or Moto GP) to make life easier for them - not just to maintain the facility.

And we come full circle with MotoGP requesting the resurfacing because of bumps.
At the venues they use.

The F1 guys have asked for smoothing out too at the circuits that they use.

Both are to blame.

Make the cars cope with the track, not the other way round.

But it's partly the cars causing the issue - wasn't it Baku where the car downforce and lateral load was causing the tarmac to break up?

Yes, I have heard it said on MotoGP commentary that it is the F1 cars causing the tracks to ripple .

Sorry to drag this back to what the OP was, but I think the answer was covered in the race today.

I agree. As last week when the winner was not certain until the last corner.

I hardly watched at all last year and nothing this year until the first 20 mins of this race today and I’ve just turned it off.

There’s nothing of interest at all in this format IMO.

So you gave up after half a lap and then the safety car? Strangely enough, there isn't much racing behind a safety car.

So since the safety car went in, how many overtakes have there been?

Are Hamilton and Vettel dicing dangerously or is it just one behind the other with a 2 or 3 second gap?

Just turned out back on for a second and see...another safety car being followed around. Bottas in the lead, presumably by doing a faster pitstop or pitting during yet another safety car and not through brilliant overtakes? You get my point.

ETA Grosjean crashes so it looks like the race will finish under the safety car.

Yep, yet another real classic.

Yes, you're right - dull, no action at all in this race. All you missed was a race-long ding-dong between the two Red Bulls, wheel to wheel several times, passing and re-passing, touching wheels, and finally crashing into each other causing the second safety car. So boring.

2 cars were racing? Crikey!

Anyway, look if you find this sort of thing entertaining for a grand prix, fair enough. I'm interested in seeing cars overtaking each other with skill and bravery and not being stuck being safety cars and winning and losing places just through good and bad luck.

I hope you didn't bother watching to the end. No racing at all after the last safety car...

But there was no overtaking, Botas got a flat and Vettel lost his place by locking up!

No choice for me
WTCC is dying, TCR have a long road to grow
DTM just not my cup of tea
Formula e is boring
Only WRC and F1 left for me
At least I could still enjoy HAAS vs Force India vs Renault

You must have been watching a different race. There was absolutely no skill and bravery shown today there. Zero. They were all out for a nice Sunday drive.

And where is that guy who pops in every now and again to tell us he'd rather cut the grass...or was it the engines he refers to...

oh bh please!
