I don't think 'ticking places off his CV' is a Newey priority and he has been quite explicit in discussing the fact that Ferrari have tried unsuccessfully to court him in the past and why he wouldn't go there.
Yes, 3 times? And he cited his young family as a main reason. They aren't young anymore.http://www.skysports.com/f1/news/12433/11170423/ad...
As he said he came incredibly close.

If you listen to Horner on the beyond the grid podcast he credits himself with recruiting Newey and fostering the creative safe space within which he thrives... but perhaps seeing he way the team has conducted itself with Renault, the way it has alienated it's highest point scoring driver, favouring the Verstappens who seem to be difficult to get on with, the fact it has signed an engine supplier which is on the face of it inferior to Renault (for now)...
Red Bull used to be the 'cool' team but the mask has been severely eroded during the hybrid era.
Maybe Renault has the right mixture of 'challenge' (pace deficit) and 'resource' to tempt Newey?

Or bucket loads of cash.... he's on what 10 mill a year, id imagine there would be a few team owners who could pay a little more than that to have Newey design the car.LaurasOtherHalf said:
Missed Apex Podcast reporting that Saintz was offered the red bull drive but turned them down.
Suspected reason was either the Team Verstappen effect or Newey leaving.
bks surely, you'd turn down a race winning car to go to a baket case like Mclaren is at the minute, really? How Mclaren haven't featured in "Shed of the Week" is beyond me. If Sainz has genuinely done that it shows little ambition and even less confidence.Suspected reason was either the Team Verstappen effect or Newey leaving.

There are not many people who think the Red Bull Honda will be a race winning car. And signing up to be a no.2 driver would hardly show ambition either.if Newey leaves RBR I don't see him joining an existing team...perhaps someone eyeing up a venture into F1 with the new regs where he can start from a blank canvas.
He's done his time and the value of his knowledge surely now places him square in the sights of Carey and the management of F1. Who better to reduce the aerodynamic impacts of the cars to improve the spectacle on track than Mr Aerodynamics himself?
In all honesty i think he will go wherever he wants to go, hes got enough money, he wants more time off with his family and chance to race himself. I cant see anyone turning round and saying they wouldn't want him as part of their team in or out of the sport.

Gasly has confirmed on his Twitter he’s joining Red Bull next year.
Makes sense for the Red Bull driver program and I’m sure he’ll be little threat to their beloved MV. So who is waiting on the conveyor belt for STR and will they keep Hartley after a disappointing season so far?Sam993 said:
No surprises then. I wonder whether his contract stipulates being Max's fkboy.
Maybe but then he might just think Max will screw up often enough for him to be let loose ... either because he’s qualified further up after Max has dumped it in Q2 or because Max is getting a new wing at the end of the first lap whilst Pierre is messing with the Red and Silver cars at the front.PG has the best opportunity he’s ever going to get (better than most ever will whilst acknowledging being RB#2 doesn’t always lead to much else) so he’d be mad not to take it.
All assuming the Honda isn’t a dog and he’s better placed than most to assess that ...
I wish Gasly well, but Red Bull are taking a chance promoting a kid who hasn’t driven a full season yet.
Their recent record on promoting drivers is patchy. Verstappen has been a qualified success, with his good performances undermined by far too many avoidable crashes. Promoting Kvyat was always an odd decision, as Sainz was obviously the better prospect, and they ended up sacking the Russian. Hartley has looked unconvincing in the STR, to put it politely. Vergne was extremely unlucky to be dropped despite having impressed most observers and doing absolutely nothing wrong in his time in F1.

Sounds like a strategy of a drunk madman doesn't it. Yep, that's the way experts at RB run things.Their recent record on promoting drivers is patchy. If not Gasly, who? Yes he's lacking in F1 experience however I'm not sure that there's anyone else that a) is available within RB's ranks and b) who'd want to be there given the Honda engine and Verstappen's standing within the team.
Red Bull and Honda are going to be a massive unknown quantity until the test sessions start in '19. Maybe Sainz was offered the job and turned it down, maybe he was never asked, either way he may have dodged a bullet. Gasly gets a promotion into the senior RB team and is most certainly going to go in enthused and willing to show what he's got, he'll also be cheap to hire. As long as he doesn't get blown away by his teammate, it's the best move for him.
RB were caught with their pants down if they genuinely thought that Ricciardo would stay, it's probably a situation they thought they'd never find themselves in.
So with Gasly moving to RB we now have 3 teams that have confirmed both drivers for next season, however only one of those still has the same line-up. It's looking likely that Kimi will stay at Ferrari however there's still an outside chance that Leclerc will take his seat, if he doesn't then maybe he'll take Grosjean's instead. It's possible that Mercedes are the only team that start '19 the same as '18 - who'd have thought that?
