Will Leclerc be allowed to beat Vettel ?
Yep, Leclerc manager is the son of the chief at the fia and Ferrari royalty.

Ex-Ferrari and did not part on good terms, IIRC.

No point in looking for conspiracy... yet...

I've no doubt that any historic aggro has been forgotten. He was a guest in Ferrari garage at Imola quite obviously enjoining himself.

All that was needed was a glass of champers and a cheeky wink..

they boo anybody that wins at Monza and isn't in a red car.
I seem to recall the exception to that was when Barrichello won in 2009 in a Brawn.

I could be wrong though.

Second best thing to being in a red car and winning at Monza is being a driver who used to be in a red car. Mansell said in an interview years ago he’s never had to pay for a meal in Italy since the day he joined Ferrari, even after all these years.

Seems odd to me too that Kimi is willing to slum it back in cattle class with the rest after years at the top, even though I'm not his biggest supporter it seems beneath him, plus it'll sadden and annoy me if once the music stops its someone like Ocon left without a seat.

It's possible there were some Ferrari $ in there to sweeten the deal for Kimi, as it also further disrupts the Mercedes young driver programme if Ocon is left out in the cold.

Rubens is a Ferrari legend so that's easy to understand the love they have for him

Or perhaps he simply likes driving an F1 car, and a mediocre car is better than no car at all.

Maybe better raikkonen to have the slower Sauber but not have to be a number 2 driver. I think this is great news and look forward to what he can do with it next season.

Indeed. I can't imagine may jobs more exciting than being paid to drive an F1 car. AND in the midfield they are tighter so I expect he will get a lot more battles which also I suspect would be more fun...

I can't imagine being a number 2 driver with somebody like Seb (and a team like Ferrari) is much fun, relatively speaking. He may have been at a top team but that's kinda irrelevant when you're not allowed or able to be at the top. He'll go from being second fiddle to being a respected senior figure in a team that's likely to value him far more.

I sense (amongst other things) Danny Ric left RB for similar reasons, although his situation was worse because he had the ability to keep his favoured team mate very honest.

Just imagine if the Sauber can make a big jump again next year and Kimi is fighting with the Renault’s and Force India’s. That should give some brilliant racing.

I hope so. Kimi may even sneak the odd podium.

Anyone else think this may be a way to control Raikkonen for the rest of the season?

Getting rid of him completely (unlikely to be able to keep it a secret till the end of the season, especially if Leclerc had to be contracted) would result in seven races where he had nothing to lose - potentially destroying Vettel's championship chances.

This way, if the deal is brokered or funded by Ferrari, Rakkonen has an incentive to play ball with Ferrari team orders, to preserve his contract for the next two years.

Not in my understanding.

The contracts will be separate.. there could be no "contract threat" of his Sauber drive being contingent on the balance of 2018 at Ferrari - at least nothing that would stand up at the Contract Recognition Board or an Arbitration Court.

Myth: Plausible.
