I think it's almost a dead-cert. McLaren will want to retain him and build an Indy team around him (America is their biggest market for road cars). I wonder if he'll want to continue in WEC? I doubt just winning LeMans as a rookie will do, he'd probably like to be champion in WEC. And next year set about winning the 500. Then maybe the Indy championship.

In fact I can see him just travelling the motorsport world hoovering up championships all over the place. He'd probably like to win the Dakar (although that's not what it was). Then eventually he'll end up doing BTCC at Thruxton when there's nothing else to win.
Pretty likely he will win the WEC title in the superseason so I can't see why he would break the contract and leave at this point.

In F1 he is only really interested in the championship so I could see him leaving to go IndyCar with a clause to come back if McLaren are competitive in the next big rule change era.

He'll be 40 in 2021. I think it will be too late.

Now that RBR have made their engine supplier decision, expect a decision to follow from Ricciardo.

Tough one for him.

I don't think he has a choice anymore. Not Mercedes and nothing emerged from the pre-contract rumours with Ferrari.

I think he will take a 2+1 year deal and look to be a free agent in 2020, hoping Hamilton is heading off...

He'd be better off staying put, imo; both Ferrari and Mercedes have no need for him and the rest aren't exactly showing great signs, I guess there is Renault and he could go in to try and rebuild the team around him.

I reckon Ricciardo could well end up being one of those drivers who should have won a WDC come the end of his F1 career but won't, as all the given circumstances have conspired against him, through no fault of his own.

He is out of contract at the end of the year and when it was put to him at Le Mans if he was going to Renault (fishing by the journalist?) he said "no comment" rather than denying it... so may be something, nothing or just negotiation tactics.

As I said in the other thread, I'm pretty sure Newey has shares in Red Bull and they also allow him to do his other stuff so I doubt he will jump ship.

Thanks. I expect Joe Saward will pecking away at his typewriter covering all this with great and salacious detail.

I did find it amusing Monday night/Tuesday morning. He stated on the missed apex podcast no deal had been done with RBR and Honda, there was still a lot to discuss etc etc and shutting down whoever their source was saying it was a done deal in Canada...

Tuesday morning - RBR Honda deal announced hehe

I really like Missed Apex but I really struggled through that podcast, Saward is so patronising... apparently anybody who doesn’t buy his .PDF must have the attention span of a gnat.

There's a story in the Guardian that Ricciardo has been offered 20m ($, but maybe £s) per annum by McLaren. Given his apparently only other choice; RB Honda, I think I'd take it.
