idn't he go straight from FRenault to F1? Had to get an exemption from the FIA to get a superlicence.

Wikipedia suggests 23 car races prior to F1: 1999 British FRenault Winter Series and 2000 FRenault UK Championship, winning 13 out of 23 events.
Different era, different rules?

Reports/ rumours at the time were that he had an attitude. With that, lack of seats and Ocon on the way up it seemed like Ocon was the safer bet
That is what I heard as well. In an Ocon/Pascal choice, Ocon was viewed as being the better team player.

Was watching the Race of Champions last weekend, interesting to see David Coulthard all in silver overalls, with Merc badges, and the Mercedes F1 Watch sponsor plastered all over him.... and not a spot of any sugary drink logo's... a part to play with Merc F1 in the near future?
He has been a Mercedes Brand Ambassador since 2011.
