Maybe Sainz isn’t leaving Renault and Hulkenburg is off to Ferrari or Haas now? hehe

I know this doesn't fit with Red Bull's recruitment strategy but id love to see Alonso reunited with the Honda power unit next year
I really want to see him back in a competitive car, it's not good for the sport to have him just making up the numbers on the grid.

While it may not be good, it's kind of his own fault.
Why’s that then?

It's a brave move, and an interesting one. Next year, we will find out how good Hulkenberg really is. My guess is that he will be very close to Ricciardo.
Quite a clever move I think.

He has to go to Renault in the knowledge he might not win another race if they dont get their act together but by staying at Red Bull he might win a couple more races but not a championship. That Honda engine is not ready to win yet and its quite clear Max is the current flavor of the week.

At 29 he has to make it happen for himself and it shows he's not afraid to stick his neck out and make big decisions. I for one am seriously looking forward to seeing how him and Hulk push Renault forward.

Yep, all his own doing.

He'll never be in a competitive car now, he's too old, there are the young guns coming through and he has a reputation of being difficult.

Could well be a 'Hamilton to Mercedes' type move.

That has livened up this silly season!

Shades of Hamilton to Merc move, but this looks like more of a punt than that.

Good luck Danny Ric.

I can't see Sainz at RBR as his time at TR with Max that was a toxic relationship. Possible:

Gasly -> RBR
Vandoorne (loan) -> TR
Sainz -> McLaren

It's a similar situation to when Hamilton left McLaren - there was shock at a lot of calls saying it was a career ending move. Daniel could go wherever he wanted, under normal circumstances - but there's few doors open at present. There's a glimmer of hope that with Renault throwing the kitchen sink at their works team, that they're on the cusp of being a force again. It's a risk on his part though, I just hope it pays off - he's awesome to watch, has a great approach to his racing, and deserves a seat in a car that can challenge for WDC's.

I desperately want it to go well for him, and not be another Alonso deal where he's in the wrong car at the wrong time and years pass him by without wins let alone championships.

I agree with %66 of that...

Norris (loan) - TR

I do hope so, but in Hamilton's case the Mercedes was competitive enough to give him podiums from the off in 2013 and from 2014 was dominant thanks to their investment in engines.

Currently Renault are best of the rest and a podium seems a long way off unless the top 3 contrive to take each other out.

Got to be Renault, hence Red Bull breaking the news first to steal their thunder.

If Ricciardo goes to Renault. I can't see 2 new drivers at Torro Rosso. If Hartley is out they will need to keep Gasly at TR, Sainz who was on loan to Renault back into the main team and they still need to hunt around for 1 more. Looking at the recent test, RB/TR had Sean Galael and Jake Dennis testing and I can't see either parachuted into TR. From a few years ago when they had a number of drivers they could choose or drop they look to be in a spot of talent trouble when it comes to Red Bull sponsored junior drivers.

Would be amazed if Ricciardo is not replaced by Gasly.

Real shame Ferrari didn't have some ba**s and signed Ricciardo.

Why is no one mentioning Ferrari for Ricciardo?

KImi still has no contract and perhaps Ferrari are telling Vettel he has to comply?

If Ferrari do then it would be a great move.

Perhaps not for Vettel.
Except Renault have confirmed him for them already.

My guess is that he knows if RB can put together a title contender, he's going to be forced to play second fiddle to golden boy.

Better to move to a team where at the very least he'll get equal treatment.

Yes noticed that news just after making the comment.

Clearly didn't change it fast enough biggrin

Alonso to replace Kimi?

Keeps stating it's not McLaren or leave F1 for 2019.

That's just me hoping frown

TR have been holding James Key hostage from Maclaren in the hope of securing the services of Lando Norris for two years. Maclaren were willing to let Lando go for one year. The dance continues.

I am always surprised when people talk about the Mercedes move as a massive risk (and I was saying this at the time) - the car was already OK and a race winner with Rosberg the previous season - and it was one year before an engine heavy formula was coming onto the scene - and one where everyone already knew in 2012 that Mercedes had a serious march on everyone.
