Or they just want to test the two different designs to make sure the simulations are accurate.

Back to back in fp1/2 and then see what they apply.

errr, doesn't that mean Mercedes are more likely to be in China's/ ChemChina's pocket ...rather than the other way around?

Not that ChemChina has even overall control in Pirelli these days.

Or are even Mercedes main supplier of tyre.

But carry on.
Your naivety is quaint smile

That is quite a few (visually) big upgrades!

Boullier saying don't have big expectations for it, as others will also improve etc. Alonso too.

F1 2018 just got a lot more sexy. That’s a stunning looking car! If the old theory about cars that look fast being fast then maybe they haven’t forgotten how to build a car...

Might well just be the picture but has the orange got a shade brighter? I know teams have been known to tweak colours through a season to look better on TV.

The nose is a mish mash of ideas from different teams...a proper frankenstein.

Hope the stopwatch is kind to it. Can't wait for FP1.

Well they did say they’d be doing something a bit daring on the nose

They weren’t wrong...

Will be interesting to see the effect - I sense from what I have been reading that what they need to do is get the body and floor working harder to reduce drag?

Quite the exciting update for McL - but I wonder - a great deal of the airflow management seems to come from the front of the car with much less visual emphasis on air' conditioning' as it flows rearwards. The big question for me - will running in dirty air spoil or diminish any advancement?
I suppose - irrespective of that the air management has to begin at the front - naturally - so it does make sense to begin the emphasis there?
they really are outrageously tight sidepods though...
I'm curious about the air ducting along the side of the nose - and the front element of the shark fin appears also to serve more purpose than just be a 'fin'. I wonder whats going on there?

I appear to be missing some pictures of the B Spec McLaren, even tried googling.

Edit to add: Seen a picture on Twitter now, that’s um different, though if it works, I really won’t care.

With the best will in the world - all air management for all cars starts at the front.....it’s the first bit of the car that hits air....

It’s not like Mercedes don’t give a shot until it hits the barge boards....

Sorry, I misread your post - my fault

I suppose all you can do is design your car to run well in clean air - I suppose you can’t really design a car to mitigate the impact of dirty air as you start inherently compromised and it will never be more effective than the car in front of you with clean air no matter what.

Well they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder! All this extra front end bodywork is making me think these newer cars have hints on Ekranoplans about them. Besides the recent Mercedes cars haven't looked attractive either. So with McLaren, a bit like Brawn before them is that they've got a new chassis paid for by Honda only to have another powertrain shoehorned in - I hope that's a good omen as Fred deserves better results. I hope they sandbag until Q2.
