Has anyone done Monza GA before? Is it ok with children? Any tips (other than get there early? We're over there end of August so thought it might be worth a visit.

Can you get right around the track? Where is best to sit?

Thanks for any advice.

My girlfriend and I did the Italian GP in 2016. We drove down (over the Stelvio Pass and Gavia Pass) and stayed in an Airbnb in Bergamo, driving to the circuit each day. You park in a football stadium not too far from the circuit and take a shuttle bus to the track. It works very well. There's a lot of walking which might be tiring for kids. We had seats on the 'bleachers' opposite the pits. More like a bench really. The atmosphere is great. We even helped to open up the massive Ferrari flag which the fans use to cover a lot of the start/finish grandstand just before the start. The view is not very good view without grandstand seats, but depends where you watch. At the risk of repeating myself, there's a lot of walking...

Ear plugs FTW wink
At least according to my year 2000 F1 in Monza visit, it may be different today.

I went with an ex-girlfriend years ago (Schumacher still at Ferrari).

As a poster above said, there's a lot of walking. And without booked seats, a lot more walking on top of that to find somewhere from where we could actually see. Plus after the first round of pitstops we were reliant on the bloke in front of us on the phone to his brother in Brazil to find out who was where in the race.

We ended up stood next to a group of Schumacher fans who gad come for the day by coach. One of them had over-refreshed himself to the extent he fell asleep on the parade lap and missed most of the race.

Toilets etc may have improved over the years, but we came away bemused as to why Bernie Ecclestone had such a bee in his bonnet about the facilities at Silverstone.

laugh

You think Bernie had the GA unwashed in mind when he talked about circuit facilities?

Prob no worse than any compatible event, festivals etc, what was nice is they don't do bad coffee, period. Even the shabby looking food vans. I think the mafia must off you or something if you do.

Depending where you drive from you can park in the streets off the North end of the track. We parked here for nothing for a couple of years, much quicker than a shuttle bus, although the walk is a smidge further.

We did Monza in 2013/14, it's a great track to visit, great atmosphere and should be even better this year with Ferrari having a decent car. Unless it's changed since then the whole of the inside of Parabolica is GA, nice and close to the track but (as with the whole of Monza), it's flat so you can't really see over people in front of you (early start?). The good thing is that part of the track is shaded by trees so you can get some shelter from the sun (it was very hot and humid the 2 years we went).

There's GA up at the other end of the track too but we didn't use that so can't help you there.

It depends where you're staying (we were in Como) but we caught the train to Monza and the the bus up to the track, number 221 bus, stop right outside of the station, buy your tickets from the booth in the station.

Yes it’s fine better than others with small kids as it’s covered in trees so plenty of shade if it’s hot. We were very close to a fast straight so ear plugs were a must. Getting in wasn’t such an issue not like Silverstone but this was 10 years ago.
