Aren't they turning vanes rather than vortex generators to move the airflow around the airbox?
Could simply be semantics here, but the shape of the individual bits and their arrangement (not unlike the front wing elements), leads me to believe they are shedding and energising vortices, in addition to doing a job of managing airflow on top of the sidepods. I think when McLaren took them off in Baku practice it made a negative impact on the balance of the car there.

The Williams is looking half decent, isn't it?

Surely max will get a proper slap on the wrists after that session.

Missing the bollard at the last race, now reversing onto the track, onto the racing line making another car have to cut the corner to avoid. Awful driving.

Keke Rosberg and Nico Rosberg out in their championship winning cars at a serene pace but Nico just passed his dad into the chicane out of the tunnel and it looks like Nico stood on the brakes to give both fronts a big lockup to simulate a big late braking effort to pass his dad biggrin

I LOVED seeing Keke out there in the FW08. I remember it well and watching it now in HD really brought back great memories. He was the first 'My driver' and I remember following him as the 'Flying Finn' back in the day. Great stuff

Same here. I spent quite a lot of time in the Williams pits during the Adelaide races back in the day. Super low tech compared to now!

Was there smoke during the lock up?

Could have been Keke lighting up a cigarette biggrin

Why have they stopped putting the drivers briefing on YouTube? That was a good thing that liberty did towards the back end of last year

Looking at the front wings, it makes you wonder if they ever put one car behind another in the wind tunnel to try an analyse the impact of airflow of following another car. Maybe the wind tunnels aren't big enough to do that.

'Burn’ of the day goes to Jennie Gow on the 5-live commentary

[Context: Jennie Gow and Jolyon Palmer were apparently cycling together yesterday]

[Something about Hulkenberg’s tendency to run a higher gear than other drivers]

Gow: So my gear selection is like Hulkenberg’s!

Palmer: Yeah but you should’ve selected a lower gear going up hill, looked like you were struggling

Gow: I learned from the best!

Drivers didn't like it. And I understand that.

FP2 stopped due to track repairs required between T4 & 5.

Cut to shot of 2 marshals looking at a drain.

DR fastest in both sessions so far. Great stuff. Qualifying could be epic when the Mercs and Ferraris turn things up to 11.

One of the marshals dropped his Gitanes down the drain and called for a red flag to retrieve them.

FP2

RB look very fast. They'll need to be this fast to have a chance with the other guys turning up their engines on Saturday.

It looks to be a fascinating contest between the RB drivers and seeing if the Ferrari/Merc drivers can do something too.

Midfield looks about the same distance away from the top 3 as last year.

If that's a relatively representative set of times, it's going to be very tight at the bottom of Q1 & Q2

And proof if ever needed that regulation stability is good. Only 2.2 sec from front to back.
