What do we think of him? Seems to be making a (cleaner) start to his F1 career than Verstappen.

It is I, Leclerc!

I generally keep an eye on the F3/F2 categories.

What impressed me the most about Leclerc is how quickly he got on top of the Pirellis in F2. The tyres in this category are still like from the bad old days of Pirelli, and you'd often see drivers coming in from lower categories who are completely confounded by them. You've got to have a great feel for it and be able to quickly adapt. You'd also often come across drivers who are able to look after them well in the race but not able to extract the 1-lap pace from them.

This guy was doing both so well. Obviously the rubber is more robust in F1 and getting to grips with the high downforce car is another thing, I think he has done well considering the Sauber looked a difficult car to drive on the limit earlier on in the season.

Everyone who actually knows, (so not us, sorry chaps smile ) seem to rate him very highly.

Around the circuits where driver is arguably more important - eg Monaco - he seems up on Ericsson and up very well.

He seems like a very handy peddler indeed. Outperforming the car which let's face it is the mark of the best drivers.

He was simply phenomenal last year in F2 - definitely a future world champion. His driving style and capability remind me of Alonso. Not as impetuous as Verstappen, a great overtaker as well as strategically smart.

A few more decent results this year and Ferrari would be insane not to promote him to the red car.

Can be tough to be thrown into the spotlight. I'd like to see him moved up to Haas for a year first.

He's definitely going to end up in a Ferrari at some point but I hope they don't rush it like they did with verstappen and let him develop a bit more

I don't agree, he doesn't need to be mincing about in rubbish cars. Get him immersed in the sharp end of the grid asap - it did Hamilton no harm...

Hamilton was the exception to the rule though. It’s generally better to let the driver have a year or two buffer. But if he did go to Ferrari and he did do a Hamilton; i.e: perform / challenge and beat his WDC teammate, then we know we have someone special on our hands!

Agreed. Wasn't he almost a second a lap faster than anyone else in one of the Spa races in F2? I'd really like to see him promoted to the Ferrari team next year and shake things up in that team!

I'm not sure there will be space for him at Ferrari next year. If Raikkonen goes off to eat his ice creams, its well reported that Ricciardo wants in (he's denied a pre contract so its probably a done deal hehe ). I think Leclerc will move to Haas first, probably replacing Grosjean there.

Why a McLaren? Would be a Ferrari powered car in my view.

Ferrari ready to replace Raikkonen with Leclerc - Autosport

Do we think he needs another season to get ready for Ferrari? Or chuck him in at the deep end for 2019?

Just go for it. Nothing to lose. Plus he is hardly a rookie. People talk about young racing drivers like they have never driven a car before in their lives. Yes age wise they are young but they have literally thousands of hours seat time by that point.

The Ferrari is easier to drive than the Sauber, it's just the expectations and the pressure which changes.

Is nobody else thinking that threatening to put Leclerc in the car might just be Ferrari trying to fire Raikonnen up?
