Everything is late this weekend. First practice doesn't start until 11am no idea why.

Ive very little hope for a good race this weekend, having seen plenty of races at Paul Ricard
Race time adjusted to avoid the same start time as a World Cup match, I guess. Football match finishes and it's straight into an F1 race, better for figures that way. They'd then move Practice and Quali to keep everything on a consistent schedule.

Good, 1pm is a st time to watch TV, I hope all the European races move to 4pm.
I agree! Much better for family time... go out in the day, back in time for dinner and race!

Time for some pics.

We appear to have an angry gorilla on the podium!

Engine cover ready for the Spec 2?

Interesting pitlane...perhaps a picnic could be had here between serious stretegy calls.

Renault front suspension bits...pretty amazing how much stuff there is to fit in that space.

Nice! Two different front wings to be evaluated in FP.

First glimpse of a RW...looks pretty substantial. Interested to see what other teams run.

Things are starting to make sense now... hehe

Find it interesting how Renault have moved to RBR style FW this year while RBR themselves have moved away from it...the bottom element that flicks up was unique to RB last year.

Looking at it from the top the area of the FW is huge!

Williams gills

What hides inside the neutral section of the front wings: sensors and ballast

Renault S-duct

McLaren exhaust

Theres no incentive for any team to run a lower downforce package, DRS negates any advantage you might have got in the past.

That is better than current F1 in every single way

Really?

6 cars finished on the same lap. Some cars were 3 laps behind. Half the field didn't finish. 5 cars didn't even pre-qualify...

While I would love a fuller grid, the late 80s, early 90s was hardly the peak of competition and I personally fail to see how it was "better". Bunch of truly rubbish teams (at the back), some true pay drivers and big gaps in performance and reliability?

And a car spent half the race stuck behind another car which was about a second a lap slower... seemed faily familiar really. Even ignoring the difficulty overtaking, the result was basically decided by pit-stop times.

The only thing that was better about it was the variety of engines competing against each other; the racing was complete rubbish even by modern standards.

When was the last time only six cars finished on the lead lap? Oh, it was just two weeks ago...

Indeed, basically nothing has changed so why do people get so rose-tinty about things?

There has always been a big performance differential, overtaking has always been an arse on many tracks, pit stops and tyre management have always been pretty much as important as outright pace and driver ability... the only real difference these days is that the cars mostly make it to the end of the race.

  • interesting fact*
I've just learned that the grass between the pits and the pit wall was imported from RAF Biggin Hill, which Bernie E also owns.
So now you know...

For some reason, I cannot get worked up about this race.

The wait until 23:15 to watch the highlights on C4 is a bit of a downer, particularly if it turns out to be as exciting as Canada was.

Didn't want any of that French grass then, you know, the stuff growing at the garden centre just down the road? Perhaps it was a gift.

The Pre-qually is something that we could do with nowadays. If you count RB and TR as one team, Merc and it's little me that moves out of the way at the slightest smell of big brother behind, and Ferrari's two, then we are suffering more than a little at the moment.

F1 has always normally been races within races: those at the front, the mid field and those at the back. I would appreciate more independent teams in the sport.

For as much as I agree with this , the problem is that if the big 3 teams didn't support these teams would they still exist? And if they weren't there would f1 still be around?
