Ooh, was not expecting that. Sincerely hope they don't fk around too much and ruin the team that a lot of us support. He said the McLaren road car division was of interest to another car manufacturer.

Uncle Joe Saward mentioned Audi buying the McLaren F1 concern in the Missed Apex podcast earlier in the week. I thought it was a revelation but seems PHers were there 2-3 weeks ago.

Joe frequently has his finger on the pulse. He suggests Audi interested in buying McLaren F1, BMW interested in buying McLaren Cars, and then Porsche as an additional entrant (engines only, but possibly tech-shared with the Audi programme). He said the McLaren road car division was of interest to another car manufacturer.

It would seem to me to be a great shame if either - or both - were sold to multinationals. The F1 team should be on the brink of profitability with the new caps coming in, whilst the road car operation has achieved a great deal in a short time - in fact, when *was* the last time somebody set up a car operation like this and grew to this scale so quickly (it at all)?
But the current principals may simply want to bow out.

I'd like to see Mclaren stay independent as they are but if a deal had to be done, I’d rather see the road car division at BMW. With Audi R8, Bugatti, Lamborghini and Porsche in the stable where would Mclaren fit. BMW would be more inclined to assist where needed but allow Mclaren to do what they do best. IMO

Porsche already have a connection within the F1 team. Team Principal Andreas Seidl ran Porsche’s LMP program before moving to McLaren.

I sort of agree with you, but after seeing the way in which BMW handled their last major UK auto purchase, I'm not so very sure.I'd like to see Mclaren stay independent as they are but if a deal had to be done, I’d rather see the road car division at BMW.
