Nothing will beat his comment on the grid in Brazil 2006 when asked if he had been to Schumacher’s fawning goodbye presentation

“No, I was taking a st”

Legend.

He’s lost a few tenths in recent years and seems more prone to errors but his unconventional style and refusal to pander by kissing arse should be applauded.
Legend ? For sheer crassness, asinine comments and total lack of charm he is in a class of his own. Not that this matters over much , it is the driving which counts. His career arc has been long and actually quite predictable , rallying adventures aside. I saw him race in Formula Renault, and it was clear he had 'it' , even though many thought he was too young. But they were wrong, his driving was sublime and remained so for a very long time . And if he is now a few tenths slower than his younger , hungrier team mate that is only to be expected . The only disappointment now is that he has entirely lost the ability to surprise.

Who would you sooner spend 1hr at an airport bar with, Kimi or Lewis?

Kimi would get my vote every single time. I could see Kimi cracking open the Finlandia and the stories would start flowing. With Lewis it'd be a few selfies, some ste about how his music career is going if he spoke to you, after all he'd be wearing his sponsors headphones at the time.

Yes Kimi gives some of the shortest answers in the paddock, but they are also some of the best answers.

I do agree his time on the boating pond of F1 is up and he needs to be called in but I for one will miss him when he departs the paddock.

Lack of charm? He's hilarious. OK so he hates press conferences but I think all the drivers do and they are utterly pointless.

I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet

He's a bit different to all the pr trained drivers but still seems a decent guy

It's all part of formula one, if he doesn't like it then it's tough titties I'm afraid, many others seem to get on with it just fine

Lewis... hands down, wouldn't even hesitate.

The only things I would like to ask Kimi and chat to him about Is the McLaren years, but he always seems reluctant to talk about anything but the here and now so it'll probably be a pretty dull convo.

Like when asked 'if you could change one thing about the tracks, what track would it be and what would you change' he responded something like 'boh errr it's pointless as you can't change anything' ... ergh.. yes.. but f*cking hell Kimi... have a little bit of imagination for Christ's sake..

By all accounts he's nothing like that away from the track. It's just his coping mechanism for dealing with the glare of the spotlights and cameras. Everyone's different, and that's just his way. I doubt that a single person would say they enjoy dealing with the press at races, answering the same dull questions over and over and over...

Actually they don’t. They often mess about.

I like Vettel, though he's a bit variable, and seems at times to have a Schumacher like blind spot when it comes to some of his own conduct on the racing track, but I was imagining a 1999 like incident when Schumacher put it in the barriers and Ferrari's title hopes were with Irvine.

Hypothetically if Vettel had a Montoya like Tennis accident during the summer break that put him out for the rest of the season you don't think Kimi would be there pushing for the WDC with Ferrari behind him?

Kimi is a Racing Driver who races, criticising him is churlish, 'You can't underestimate him':

What a disgrace when they disqualified Hamilton on that race. Mosley could not stand the young man from Ron Dennis team.

He sold out. He knew what he was getting into with Ferrari and followed the money. I do not criticise him in any way for that. All those zeros would tempt anyone. However, it does dull my sympathy.
Certainly more tempting than not being paid at all, which was what he was experiencing at Lotus if I recall correctly.

Not this actually, both of them are equally entertaining away from the cameras and media as was Michael Schumacher... you lot need to stop judging people by the media's portrayal of them.

But we know for a fact that Hamilton is a vegan.

I was wondering what inspired the OP to start this thread, just now. Perhaps he had heard something no one else had?

I have never really warmed to Kimi’s personality but his driving has always been good enough to justify being in a top team. This year, he has read the script and performing his role perfectly, while scoring decent points.

There seems to be such a wealth of young talent, I would not be disappointed if he joined Fernando to spend more time with his family. Yet somehow, I think he will be driving a red car next year, at least.

If I was a WDC there’s no way I’d wind up being no2.
I’d rather get out completely or drop down the grid if I wanted to stay in F1

Still - presumably Kimi is wired that way.
