Apologies as I haven't read all the posts but my take on the first lap collision is this:
If you look at the heli shots both Vettel and Hamilton were catching Kimi on the approach to the chicane. Vettel had 3 choices: 1. Back off a bit so as not to run into his team mate 2. Keep his foot in but pull to the left to give himself more room (and potentially open up a pass) 3. Run into the back of his team mate.
Clearly 3 isn't on and if he chose 1 Hamilton would have passed him on the left in to the chicane. So his only viable option was 2, which is actually what he chose.
Once Hamilton got alongside though he should have let it go and passed him on the straight instead of trying to block the pass.
As I say, just my take but from the heli shots it's pretty clear. Surprised the commentators didn't pick that up.
agree with this. theres nothing much he could have done....hense hamiltons check mate comment. he knew that vettel had backed himself into a corner. hindsight is a wonderful thing, interestingly he did the same in france with differing outcomes!
It's a shame as it robbed us of what could have been a great race. Although with Ferrari's tyre issues maybe not. Ultimately, it was the tyres that robbed us of a great race. Hamilton just waited for Kimi's tyres to fall apart (which they did) and if Vettel had been in front no doubt his would have too.

I disagree.I thought it WAS a great race. Hamilton and kimi had some great battles and the strategy with Mercedes was great to watch.
ultimately it wasn't the tyres that robbed us of a good race but the fact kimi used them up too soon, which I don't blame him for but those first few laps after his pitstop really set him on a downward spiral, which he was forced into by Mercedes.

I thought it was a great race. Indeed, I enjoyed about as much as any this season. RichB said:

I'm with you. I would not suggest that it was a classic race, one that will be talked of for years to come, but it is worthy of being included in a season of great races that will be talked of . . . etc.It was thoroughly entertaining. Had Vettel got past LH and then let go by KR, the race for first would have been over I think.
It was a fascinating midfield battle as well. The TV producer included a fair bit but not enough, perhaps because there was so much else going on.

The James Allen’s strategy also suggests that Kimi was not singing from the same hymn sheet as Seb/Ferrari.
Motorsport.com are also saying that LeClerc will take Kimi’s seat next year. https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/leclerc-raikkon...
QED - Kimi is looking for a drive for next year and wanted to shine.

What is also quite telling to me, is that despite most of us thinking Kimi has no drive next season and being in a Ferrari at Monza, he did not do anything dirty or unfair. And Lewis had totally confidence that he would behave properly too. They both knew it of each other when they had a bit of a dice a few times....
Dangerous release of vettel at 1:16.
How that didn't get a penalty I don't know as can't get much more of an unsafe release than that.

Also Kmag another joker along with Pistonheads second messiah Riccardo thinking he's driving in the BTCC as Rob Collard.

It was a close one, Monza is a 2 lane pitlane though, and the car the Ferrari came out on was a Sauber, with a Ferrari engine, in Italy. I don't know who the ex driver steward was, but its probably a combination of Sauber getting a nudge to not protest or flag up the release, and the stewards wanting to get out alive How that didn't get a penalty I don't know as can't get much more of an unsafe release than that.

Certainly brings a little more interest to proceedings. I'm a Ferrari fan, but if they want to make this Italy vs England (Seb said "Inglese"), well that's another thing entirely.Deesee said:
Wasn’t aware of Vettel going as far as getting the union flag. It’s an odd thing to do / request. He is a silly silly boy. HardtopManual said:

Not my take on that, it was more like Max the "Wonderkid" driving like Jason Plato or Matt Neal in the BTCC! Edited by SmoothCriminal on Tuesday 4th September 18:45
