Rosberg has creatively called his podcast ‘Beyond Victory’ and the first episode is up on all platforms including YouTube.

His first ep’ is interviewing Bernie. Warning; the camera work will make you dizzy.

First time I have seen a proper interview with BCE, ignoring the wonky editing its a really good watch.

For sure. I don't know what it is but there's something off about this guy... It always has been.

Yes, he's not quick enough!

He knew it and stopped before he got shown up - again!

Yep, beating everyone else was so embarrassing he had to retire.

I watched a bit less than the first half.

He's a terrible interviewer. His questions are so long and rambling that he's edited in the middle of asking them (that's normally reserved for when the interviewee is rambling). It was the classic toadying sycophantic ego-massage session for Bernie. I learned absolutely nothing new about him.

Is the second half any better?

Yeah, he was only quick enough to beat the bloke who many on here would have you believe is the quickest out there. In the same car.

(Cue the ‘Hamilton’s car broke down’, ‘they took his engineers away’ ...........)

Presumably covered in other threads but anyone who wins any championship/belt and is unwilling to defend it even once is 1. not a racer at heart and 2. fully aware the luck required to pull it off again is, if not astronomically unlikely then certainly very long odds against a repeat. Somehow would have been more honourable to have never won than to run for the hills imo.

Ruddy hell. That debate has been done to death!

I think Bernie was quite relaxed with Rosberg. And I think Rosberg does a good job on Sky, but the long questions and edits were a little much.

This is the first time I have ever seen Ecclestone give a proper interview and the first time I have seen him being asked what you might call proper questions. I know what you refer to about classic sycophantic ego-massage questions to BCE and this interview is different.

As much as I like Nico, that was painful. Couldn’t watch it.

Nico needs to learn that he has 2 ears and one mouth. He should use them in that ratio (or wider) when trying to conduct an interview.

Perhaps Kimi can give him some lessons.

This has promise. I like Nico on Sky, he seems very comfortable with what he's achieved and the decision he made to get out. Not the greatest of interviews though. Pretty poor sound quality for the most part and fairly mundane 'safe' questions. I hope he sticks with it and improves as much as an interviewer as he did as a driver.

I can't watch it, the shaky camera makes me feel sick, can't they afford a tripod?

I like Nico in small doses, I'm always impressed by how balanced he is considering how recent his retirement was and how intense 2016 was.

You wouldn't say he was a natural in front of the camera but on a few matters he can offer a unique perspective.

I really didn't enjoy listening to that. I couldn't stand more than 5 minutes or so. The camera work was crap. The positioning of the microphone on Nico was awful - if he turned his head one way the sound was hugely muffled. He needs to sort out a tripod and a proper mic. I would have thought he has enough cash to buy one...

Prost, Mansell, Fangio and Stewart also retired as champions. Are they not racers either????

Prost, Fangio and Stewart has already defended their championships by that point. They didn't win once and then run for the hills.

Mansell situation is different, he left F1 after a disagreement at Williams and won the Indy championship the following year.

Whatever the case may be; Rosbergs one WDC is a fair reflection of his time at Mercedes IMO: a great driver in the best car. Yes, fate was on his side and Hamilton suffered that season but there’s been many a WDC decided on similar circumstances.

I really liked watching Mansell in my childhood. I think he could have got another title if he stayed one more year in that car (which Prost took his last title in). Rosberg is a lot younger I would like to see him race again next year, it was good to watch the Mercedes rivalry with Hamilton.

So if he was that good why did he only do it once? And then quit!

Then admit he couldn't do it again. laugh

Surely that's the difference between good and great.
