Can we wait and see about CLC before somehow anointing him as better than X/Y/Z before he's even raced for one of the big boys?
The sport is littered with the next big thing who looks good in a midfield/back of the grid team but fails when they are in the big boy team with a top class teammate.
I might be wrong but CLC looks like the real deal. I think Vettel will be tested. The sport is littered with the next big thing who looks good in a midfield/back of the grid team but fails when they are in the big boy team with a top class teammate.

remember when everyone talked about Massa & how quick he was in that Sauber? The sport is littered with the next big thing who looks good in a midfield/back of the grid team but fails when they are in the big boy team with a top class teammate.
then he moved to Ferrari

How exactly is sacking Kimi not protecting the Ferrari Number1 driver?
Are you seriously suggesting that Raikkonen is more of a threat to Vettel than Leclerc will be?Raikkonen has barely threatened Vettel’s pace since they’ve been team mates, we must remember that this year has been Kimi’s best against Vettel, and it’s 13-3 to Vettel in qualifying. There’s a 70 point gap despite Vettel’s high profile mistakes.
Kimi has been Vettel’s patsy throughout. Endlessly running long on tyres which are shot to enable Vettel to under / overcut. Moving over whenever asked even if he is in the position to win in front of Vettel.

Well Kimi didn't exactly help the cause in Monza did he?
Four years as team mates and the only example you can find of Raikkonen not rolling over for Vettel is the weekend Ferrari announced they were giving him the boot Ferrari are, against their better judgment, sticking a rocket up Vettel’s arse… and we all know how he responds to intra-team pressure… but their reasoning is clear. They’ve given Vettel enough time to emerge as their new Schumacher but he’s not quite there- and now Raikkonen is getting close-ish! What does that say about Vettel’s performance?
Leclerc drove around the outside of Magnussen on Sunday. In a Sauber! And Ferrari are giving him a much easier car to drive next year. I predict Seb is going to be tripping over his own bottom lip for much of next season.

I'm sure we all remember this sort of thing right?

he wasn't 'anything' for 20 seconds
the only folk who ever say that he was a 'WDC for...' are the desperate & dear old Felipe's Dad

And neither was Lewis anything, until the Gift from Glock on final corner
what, like he gifted places to all the other drivers that sailed past him ...have you seen his on board?& isn't this the same year Bernie 'gifted' Massa a win at Spa?
not to mention that Ferrari won the majority of races (8) & won the WCC by 20pts
...& yet with all that assistance, Felipe 'close, but no donut' Massa- still didn't win the WDC

for all bernies faults interfering in race results wasn't one of his regular gigs, red-is-our-favourite-colour was more spanky max & the ferrari international assistance variety show at work.& isn't this the same year Bernie 'gifted' Massa a win at Spa?

The last four years from a competitive standpoint and have been some of the worst in memory
2014 and 2015 was a one-team title race. 2016 was marginally better, but still, you had to be in a Mercedes to win regular races, with Red Bull and Ferrari picking up the odd race win.
2017 slightly better again and this year, but unless you're in a Mercedes, Ferrari or Red Bull you're not going to get on the podium. Red Bull have a hard enough job of winning a race.
If both Mercs, Ferraris and Red Bulls finish a race, the rest don't have a chance of a top-6 finish; even the gap between the Red Bulls and the midfield teams is ridiculous. That's tragic.
People moan about the high-speed V10 days, but at least some years we had up to 5 different teams winning races and 6 different teams finding their way onto the podium. That's competition.
1988 to 1991 Senna won between 6 and 8 races out of 16 races per season.2014 and 2015 was a one-team title race. 2016 was marginally better, but still, you had to be in a Mercedes to win regular races, with Red Bull and Ferrari picking up the odd race win.

1992 Mansell won 9 out of 16 races
94 & 95 Schumacher won 50% of the races both years in the bennetton
between 2000 and 2004 he again won 50 to 75% of the races each season for Ferrari
2005 Kimi (Mclaren) and Fernando (renault) each won 7 out of 19 races
2006 Fernando & Schumacher each won 7 of 18 races
Kinda compares to Lewis having won around 45 to 70% of races for 14, 15, 16 and 17
