Does anyone actually like Vettel?

Most of what you've written hits the nail on the head, and I like him too. I understand more about the German mentality than most here, and can speak and read and write the language fluently, as I've been living here for over 30 years. And when you're judging someone, an understanding of their national mentality is very important. The "Krauts" have a reputation for being humourless,: it just is not true: but you have to speak the lingo before you understand it. Anyone who thinks that Vettel isn't likeable should watch this video. You don't have to understand German, the video speaks for itself:

I like Vettel... but that video is just a PR stunt for Infiniti. Not sure it’s very telling of anything in particular. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2s_i3yktCA

Erm... Baku??? Feeble denial like he's an expert defendant in court. But I like the guy a lot personally. I'm a Brit and always support our own, it is the job of the fan to hate your man's rival. Yet I've said many times, he's a really difficult guy to hate.

Vettel: 'Key' to work together with Leclerc at Ferrari in 2019.
Sebastian Vettel thinks its essential that he and new Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc have a cooperative working relationship in Formula 1 next season.
With the Scuderia deciding against retaining its number two driver Kimi Raikkonen for 2019, Vettel will have a new team-mate for the first time since he joined Ferrari in 2015.
But while Leclerc's natural speed is obvious, the 21-year-old lacks F1 experience with only 19 Grands Prix for Sauber under his belt, which is why Vettel thinks it would be a mistake if the pair locked horns in a fight for internal supremacy.
"It's going to be different for sure because Charles is not Kimi and Kimi is not Charles," Vettel told Autosport.
"He is young, so he will have a lot on his head and a lot of things in his mind. So I think for the team we need to work together on track.
"I am sure he wants to beat me, [and] I want to beat him, the rules are clear. It was the same with Kimi.
"But I think the key is that we work together and, as I said, he will have a lot of things going on in his head.
"I am his teammate, so I am also here to help. I am the last one that is trying to hide or playing any games or anything like that.
"That is why I think I get along very well with Kimi, because in this regard we are very similar. So we will see."
Although Raikkonen's failure to convince Ferrari to keep him for 2019 could have prompted him to walk away from F1, a deal to take Leclerc's vacant seat at Sauber means the Finn will continue racing into his forties.
However, Vettel says he is sceptical about extending his own career to such an age.
"Well, its another ten years from now to go as long as Kimi," he said.
"It is a long time. It's as long as I've been here, so now its halftime basically. I don't know.
"We're looking at 400 Grand Prix... in total. I don't know, you should never say never, but maybe not. I don't know.
"It depends, you know. If I win the next ten years with Ferrari, than yeah, why not?"

No. More likely being sensible. He realises that he isn't in a position to win titles if there's an internal battle in the team. He and Charles need to work together to get around the development issues that Ferrari had this year. F1 is a team sport and to win next year they'll need to work together as Mercedes have done this year.CampDavid said:

Funny enough Vettel has had that since joining Ferrari with Kimi and look how that worked out for him.Basically wreaked his chances in 2017 and 2018 with basic driving mistakes.
Ferrari knows the situation and this is why Kimi has been replaced.
If LeClerc is as good as he looks then Vettel will not have to worry about him as he will be too far ahead.

I like him. I thought the way he dealt with Lewis winning the championship in Mexico and his genuinely warm congratulations was very dignified and respectful. Full marks for going into the Mercedes garage and congratulating all the engineers there too - he is a good loser.
My feeling too. That and the fact that he likes/uses English humour. He's a little like a driving version of Henning Wehn garyhun said:

In general I like Vettel.
As many have said, outside of his job he comes across as a charming, witty, intelligent and fun individual who doesn't take himself too seriously, so yeah, if he invited me out for a beer I'd probably go.
I think he has matured since joining Ferrari, and his sportsmanship has been shown by some of his actions this year (congratulating the Mercedes Team etc) which have overshadowed some of his other actions in recent years (banging wheels with LH in Baku).
But....
I couldn't stand him when he was at RedBull. The car was so dominant, and against a slightly less talented team mate, Vettel shone. But my good god, that finger!! It would just infuriate me and I never really knew why!! During those 4 years, never had I wanted something more than to rip his finger off and insert it in him!
I am a big fan of Webber, he genuinely is a really nice guy and a quick and consistent driver, and the way that Vettel treated him I dont think anybody thought was fair or acceptable....

What’s your view of Hamilton, given that the Mercedes has been FAR more dominant than the RB was (statistically undeniable) and he’s been up against either slightly less or significantly less talented team mates? As many have said, outside of his job he comes across as a charming, witty, intelligent and fun individual who doesn't take himself too seriously, so yeah, if he invited me out for a beer I'd probably go.
