I think they ran the tyres into the ground and did a lot more laps on them than the others

They were doing 1.13’s whilst Merc were doing 1.12’s

(These are not new btw, used super softs)...

I can't remember which race it was, possibly Monza or Japan, but he basically built up a sizeable lead to make a point and then pulled over and waited by the side of the track for Patrese to pass before setting off behind him. One of them retired so it was sort of irrelevant, but there are better ways to do it I think. Everyone including Patrese knew Mansell was faster in that car, he didn't need to rub Patrese's nose in it and I say that as an admirer of Mansell's achievements and driving style.

I thoroughly enjoyed Mansell as a racer, but I'm with you there. That was awful.
