What I don't understand is why Williams don't look at what Haas are doing with Ferrari and not trying to emulate that but with Merc.

It wouldn't make them a Merc b-team, such as Toro Rosso, but would give them a mega boost.

I think their problems are more fundamental than that.

Aero is clearly their biggest issue, but spending effort designing illegal bits to go on the car, not having it ready on time, stop-go penalty last week, all point to a complete breakdown of resource managment.

Ownership / leadership of the team is the fundamental that needs to change first, in order to go down the Hass / Racing Point route to success.

If they were a hospital, or school, the Government would be putting them into emergency measures. No one at Williams seems to even recognise the emergency. All we get is BS talk from Claire.

Look at the aero artistry in front of the other cars sidepods. Then look at Williams.

It's as if they made a generic F1 car that would satisfy the regs. Not even close to ambitious. I'm sure there was more ambition than that... But whatever, the end result looks extremely basic.

I think aero is their biggest shortcoming, it's as if they pay lip service to the theory of aero, in reality, the current era of F1 is all about aero. And come 2021, more so than ever apparently.

No Superlicence...
Not insurmountable though?
As Red Bull and Dan Ticktum are finding out, it takes time to accumulate enough points to qualify for the licence, and he won't get near an F1 car without one.

They tried ‘complex and ambitious’ last year.

Impossible at present... although a few more F2 victories will speed that up.

Indeed. Both trying something and cocking it up, and not trying at all are both symptoms of not knowing how to do something.

I'm sure some very talented people do exist at Williams, I don't wish to be rude about their efforts - but clearly when it comes to aero there is something missing in the end result.

I agree.

Nothing will change while the team is under the current ownership & management which is quite clearly failing and completely dysfunctional. Sadly, the team is stuck while Sir Frank is still alive. An awful thing to say, I know, but it’s the truth.

Yes, they see any closer ties to a manufacturer or engine supplier as a 'sell out' and makes them a B team. Something that would happen over Claire's dead body apparently. Except as with Haas and Racing Point, it doesn't.

The biggest thing holding them back is their arrogance.

Looking for positives - after Mercedes they’re the most consistent team on the grid.

Are there any news on Paddy Lowe?

Was it him really responsible for Williams problems or they made him a scapegoat?

Yes, they have maintained their perfect 100% finishing record in last and last +1 in every race so far this season.

Clever tactics waiting for the race with 9 retirements and they will get a point.

Robert Kubica might as well start in the pit lane, and stay there.

True but it applies to Geroge Russell too (and whoever would drive Williams car).

Joking aside, Williams are well on track to finish this season with zero points. Very, very sad.

They need to roll the dice with every wet race or possible wet race.

My feeling is that in the end, they built a 'remain in F1' car this year. F1 needs ten teams, they are the tenth team. I think at some point pre-season they accepted that fact and stopped the spending. That would explain why the car is by far the least ambitious on the grid.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe they did try. Either way, it doesn't make the end result any less shameful.
