The Williams team have managed build a faster 2020 car than last year's - well, it couldn't have been any worse. Given their PU, the cars are still woefully slow.
Toto manages Russell. Russell was regarded as the best of the 2019 newcomers. Why is he tied to Williams for 2021 too? Surely somebody from another team would want him next year.
I expected him to replace Bottas next season.
Has Toto got plans for him? I'd hate Russell to miss the bus, like others before him.
He’s got a contract with Williams and they don’t want to release him. Why would/should they?
When Toto wants him, he will have him.
It's pretty obvious where George is going in the future.

No chance not good enough, hence the 3 year (unheard of/longest term on the grid) contract at Williams..

Granted, although that’s a proper or ‘the’ works drive..

And Williams will receive a nice payment to ease his early release.

Inglish..No probs..boss man..

Do you (@jsf) believe he (Russell) is good enough to drive in the top team (mercedes) right here right now?

& if (mercedes) the top team had free reign to pick 2 drivers they would pick that? Because they would not..

Yes

He already has driven it.

It's clear he is being held back for a seat at Mercedes when the time is right, most people think this.

Ok, we disagree, no problem.

Yes he has driven a mercedes in a test, and every interview we are treated to (opening statement) ‘I AM A MERCEDES DRIVER’

However for the next 60 Grand Prix (where he will approach 100 career GP) he is driving for Williams, this is a race situation not a test (no more of those for him BTW) driving a car that has evolved by over one second a lap this year, the competitors (Alfa/Hass) have lost one second a lap this year (ahem), but still does not show the progress of a protege, yes he has decent one lap pace on a Saturday, but seems to struggle on a Sunday, the 305km important bit..

I agree off to merc after his contract at williams, drive as second driver to hamilton while hamilton gains world championship number 10 then takes over as number 1 driver.

2022 is my bet, they are going to need 2 top line drivers if the other teams produce a good car to the new regs.

What are you talking about? Next year is the last on his current contract, by which time he'll have about 50 GPs under his belt, not 100. Or do you think he'll stay there for two more years after that, for five in total?

As for race performance, I'm sure he just finished twelfth from last on the grid. In a Williams. I'm sure he would have been in the points without his grid penalty. What more are you expecting?

Agree - contracted to the end 2021.

Unless Bottas gives up or Hamilton throws a wobbly and signs for Ferrari, Russell is off to Merc in 22.

Done deal.

He’ll get his reward.

No surprise at the buyout although I wonder if they'll remain racing as a British team in the future?
