Williams Advanced Engineering has been sold again, although when I first saw the headline I was hoping the team had diversified into bionic prosthetics

Just had to dig through 9 pages of F1 chat to find and resurrect this thread! I guess the team really isn't that interesting now it's no longer family owned.

But for those that do maintain an interest and are in/close to London: https://www.williamsf1.com/posts/0eb01cb1-d677-4f7...

An easy way to see a couple of cars and the drivers. Even though one of them is Latifi, who is on his way out in a minute.

I know..

But Albon is there too, and a couple of cars. It's probably a good excuse to go to Westfield for a little shopping and F1 chatter with others and some team members without spending GP ticket ££££.

Looks like it's been made with a standard template. Given their long and storied history you'd expect a bit more than a few short paragraphs and 8 random videos hidden away as well.

What is there to say though? Now the family is detached from the team it's just another F1 team with no real success to speak of. The 'story' kind of ended.

They could go on about the past glory days (the site did before the sale) but there comes a point at which shouting about past glories sits uncomfortably against current reality.

As such, it's now just a corporate website.

Rokit is now claiming a $149m lawsuit against Williams for damage to their reputation. Rokit lost the previous case about not respecting sponsorship contract agreements and unpaid sponsorship fees to Williams...

Who's worse, Rokit or Rich Energy? hehe

Surely they would need a reputation in order to damage it. Their only two phones (out of stock everywhere except Lyca and only the cheap one) are Android 8 or Android 9 with 16 and 64GB. Real cutting edge stuff.

I suspect Dorilton have deeper pockets and better lawyers even ignoring that Rokit have already lost in both the UK and US over this.

Rokit is a venture capital business, the phones (that flopped) where just one the venture they invested in. Reputational damage will be to Rokit as a business investment brand.
The founders/owners are John Paul DeJoria (Patron sprits /
John Paul Mitchell Haircare) and Jonathan Kendrick (Yokohama Europe / prepaid phone cards). I suspect for the owners the fund does not need to make a profit.

Unlike mr storey / Rich Energy, the owners of Rokit had and have actual cash.

Have the owners of Dorilton ever come out publicly?

Agree. But this is cheap advertising for Rokit - it'll be all over the F1 media soon, basically the same as having their logo on the car but all they had to do was pay minimal legal costs to make the claim...

Not really a big surprise - they last won a title about 25 years ago and it's no secret that long dry spell left them short on budget.

Just checked another stat, they last won a race in 2012, some bloke called Maldonado - impressive for him to even finish a race let alone win it biggrin

Wasn't 2012 the year of the Bernie's fix with tyres, 6 different winners in the first 6 races?

I heard that Bernie gave Williams special petrol on the understanding that they destroy the evidence afterwards.

It's purely coincidence that it was the first race Frank Williams attended after his recent 70th birthday, and was also the weekend of the Williams team's 35 anniversary.

That was pretty well-known, in fairness.
