I definitely don’t see Hamilton in a red car now - Ferrari are clearly backing Charles.
I am sure, if he was available and up for the move, and they could afford it without sacrificing development budget, they'd rather have Hamilton in a Ferrari alongside Charles, and deal with the driver war, than having Hamilton sitting in someone else's fast car and racing against them.

They are backing Charles, the other seat depends on which Vettel turns up in 2020. If this year's is there, Vettel might walk before being pushed. That and whatever happens with Mercedes after 2020 (Penske buying in, Toto leaving to go to the F1 board...)

Do you believe Hamilton to Ferrari is or was predicated on both Vettel and Leclerc leaving? That's fantasy land. If Ferrari want Hamilton and vice versa, Leclerc was always going to be there (unless he himself wanted to move on).

It'll be great if Hamilton does go there, as Leclerc (he's Monagasque, BTW) will be another year more solid and the two will be intense competition for one another.

Ferrari have a decision to make; either partner CLC with another top level driver and manage the fireworks, or go down the B Lister route and keep a number 1 number 2 structure.

Will be great seeing how it pans out.

Well done to Charles, in a single season he has made a 4 time world champion look ordinary (and I like Seb) and secured a long term contract in a top team, I look forward to seeing what he can achieve.

Cant see him and Lewis in the same team at the same time though, especially Ferrari, the politics there seem to be wearing at the best of times. Personally if I were Lewis and Mercedes are staying put I'd stay there for now, much more harmonious and less likely to implode.

LCC (the Monegasque one) is definitely the red team’s future but still has 10/15 years ahead of him. Plenty of time for WDCs down the road.

Hammy has another 2/3 years left if he wants.

It would be a Ferraritale ending if Hammy could win his 8th WDC at the red team ? I heard the reds are an emotional bunch and this would be just up their strada.

At the end of the day, the red team’s day job is selling dreams. This could be a wonderful dream for both.

Doesn’t mean it’s going to happen but LCC getting a new contract is not going to effect it.

Seb is a 4 x WDC.

LCC just has potential. When he’s got a fee WDCs under his Belt, he can name his price.

100%, but as a package that’s 5/6/7th in terms of pay on the grid.. too long and too little IMO.

The Red team always keep the big $$$ for their lead driver smile.

They don’t need to pay him more.

Where else will LCC go ?

You can imagine the conversation...

"But this package only puts me 5th in the F1 earnings list, I want to to be 3rd"

"Si, si Charles, that's lovely, but if you want to be paid that much you can always go and drive for the other Ferrari."

"But there isn't another Fer....Oh"

It might be 9 million basic, but I'd be certain there will be plenty of performance related bonuses.

It’s nothing like the Lewis/Max/Dani/Valtteri ‘bonus element’ of there contracts...it’s pretty much 9 pa..

it's a great contract and particularly with regards to the length a sign of their faith in him, he's secure in one of the best possible places to be and if/when titles come or other teams are sniffing ferrari will up the $ anyway.

There will be exit clauses as well if Ferrari don't provide a good car.

Contract dates now that Leclerc has signed to Ferrari for 5 years.
I also don't see Lewis in the red car... But if he asked for the 2021 drive then vettel will be ditched. Irrespective of whatever contract he has in place.

Still don't see it happening though.

Depends on Lewis, Mercedes's & Toto's plans. If Mercedes do plan to sell the team and go back to making engines which then pushes Toto either elsewhere within Mercedes or even to the FIA/FOM, Lewis could easily pick the phone up to Binotto and as good as name his price and Ferrari would likely pay it. With Vettel's wage off their budget, even with Charles increase wages they'll have £30m a season available. Lewis signs a two year contract then retires, having given Ferrari their much coveted WDC.
