Ferrari and Red Bull have had for over a year, it’s less noticeable/has less effect due to the rake of the car.

Importantly not (movable) aero..

In essence, like the 'rear wheel steering' debate, it's all the same thing, suspension geometry. It does appear Mercedes have a surprising amount going on at the limit of lock though. Probably nothing 'unique', so much as Mercedes in typical fashion finding the most efficient and effective solution.

I used the word innovation before - perhaps 'extreme evolution' is more accurate.

Evolution is a word I like for this..

Apparently Bottas broke the rules under Safety Car

Did he receive a penalty ?
humour us & tell us which rule that is ...considering they hadn't actually caught the safety car up & so the 10 car length rule didn't/ doesn't apply
Bottas slowed down massively before approaching pitlane causing those behind to slow and bunch up.

No rule was broken, and he was not even the slowest man on the track for the box in lap.

The lead group were at the lowes hairpin and therefore about to approach the tunnel and pool sections (quick bits which they have to drive slow), they will drive to a min lap delta.

It was not a crash at turn one, where everyone will slow down for that corner, it was shards of carbon everywhere, everyone was going slow, even guys that did not box under SC were doing 1.50’s.

I think Hamilton's been making the racing more interesting for the whole of his career. In F1, from his first race in 2007 til last Sunday just, for 12 solid years Hamilton has been one to watch and time after time, a driver to marvel at.

Yet the whinging we've had about him. Twelve solid years of whinging, right up to last Sunday just. frown

What *do* fans want?

(Answer: There's no answer to that).
Could not agree with this more.

I've said it many times.. Once he retires that's it. Only then will people realise what an affect he has had on this sport. And only then will he truly be appreciated.

I remember watching schumacher cruise to world titles with no competition. It amazes me the level of moaning going on about recent years.

Ermm, I seem to remember Schumacher receiving pretty fierce competition and close racing from:

Williams - Hill
Williams - Villeneuve
McLaren - Hakkinen
Renault - Alonso

I agree too. I'm only sad that he has as yet not had a sustained and legendary rivalry in F1. He had Nico and Vettel, but it's hardly the stuff of Prost/Senna. I was hopeful that when Vettel moved to Ferrari it would be several years of intense Ferrari vs Mercedes and Lewis vs Seb. But in the end, that hasn't really happened. Last year was about as close as it got and until mid-season, it was a genuine battle with the advantage swinging one way then the other.

But overall, yes - future legend no doubt.

I suspect the OP was referring to the 2001-2004 period when Hill had retired; Hakkinen was in an uncompetitive Mclaren and then retired; Villeneuve was in a backmarker BAR and Alonso was firstly a test driver then poling around in a Minardi or mid-field Renault.

It's easy to forget that 2000 and 2003 were relatively close run championships (Championship sealed at penultimate race) since 2001, 2002 and 2004 were such dominant wins where the only question was how early in the season could Schumacher win.

Don't many consider Aloso a legend?

Hes had world champions in the same team and beaten them all.

He was undoubtedly a legend in his own mind, but I think he will be remembered as the guy who failed to reach his full potential. Largely down to his own poor judgment.

In fairness, I actually think that any driver who wins a WDC becomes a legend. I don’t think that Hill or Button were the greatest of their respective eras, but their status will forever be recorded in history.

Which one hasn't he beaten over a season?

Or are you going to mention that Button won more points over 3 seasons despite finishing behind in the championship twice!

No worries. Although Hamilton did beat Alonso.
