Ferrari doesn't need F1.

They should walk away and just produce exotic street cars and a bit of Le Mans.

But - F1 would be less interesting without their Tele Nova !
I'd say you're probably right. I think Ferrari probably would do fine without F1. I don't think many of their customers really think they're buying the pinnacle of performance due to seeing them racing in F1... They buy the cars because a) It's a Ferrari. b) heritage and image, they're a thoroughbred sports car c) it's a Ferrari. I also think F1 would miss Ferrari but would get on with it.

All hypothetical though, neither F1 or Ferrari are in any rush to find out for sure just in case... !
There's little F1 correlation with its road cars for their customers, and while it's nice to get an invite to its hospitality, Le Mans is much more relevant in off the shelf design terms etc.
Fairly certain audiences would diminish if F1 lost Ferrari, but then Mercedes are probably wealthy enough to plug any financial gaps for Liberty and/or the FIA.
F1 would become more niche as a result I think.

I've never bought into F1 needing Ferrari.

Sure, the Italian support may fall, but most of the world are watching the show.

But what constitutes a show ?
Tight drama has been lacking of late.

I do not know what you have been watching, but, there has been plenty of drama this season in F1.

Yes there has been! Not for 1st in WDC or WCC perhaps, but in the midfield have the points ever been closer!? Mclaren vs Renault... 2 points separate them for the super - valuable 3rd in WCC and several drivers battling for WDC finishing positions too. It's as tight as I can remember and the pendulum swings each GP in one way or another.

And a whole slew of new and unusual circuits to race at... F1 hasn't been so varied or close for a very long time.

It's been a great season. Lots of drama on track unless you think the only two cars that matter are whoever is in 1st and 2nd, Some new tracks and revisits to old ones have spiced things up with a lot more driver mistakes, Racing Point have become more competitive, Renault are getting results. Cars are overtaking eachother. Max is putting in some incredible drives reminiscent of Senna's standout drives for Lotus and in 1992 / 1993 and Seb is driving an articulated Ferrari.

Formula 1 has always been about 1 dominant team, and seasons where two or more manufacturers have competed on even terms are occasional crossover points as one team moves in to dominance and another moves out.

This season has been far from the “write off” many predicted at the start of this Covid weirdness.

I’m looking forward to this weekends race !!!

I have very much enjoyed it up to now

He meant compared to his team mate in the same car.

Ofcourse, but that's the sorry state of the rest of the cars.

Well that's a thread (or Fred?) bump! This started with the news he was leaving McLaren and now he's signed a contract taking him into he's 45.

I've not always been a fan but he's definitely still got the drive and skill to push at the top level.

I assume Honda have OK'd this ...

Funny when there’s been ‘chatter’ on social media about upset in the team, issues with Alonso.

Usual guff on social media.

When you're better than 2/3rds of the grid on a bad day, that leaves a lot in the tank for nailing the weekend.

This is a risky move from AM and I'm surprised they've done it. The man has defied the odds so far, but time makes fools of us all. Look at how Valentino Rossi almost instantly fell off the pace around this age.
