He did in fact state that it could be a case of RUS instead of OCO at Mercedes, he mainly clarified that BOT was on his way out.
Just suggested the same in "speculation" thread; Ocon's had his chance, if he was considered good enough he should have been in the merc this year.JonChalk said:

I think it is more complex than that - they had (IIRC) committed to Bottas, placed Ocon at Renault and something happened with Ricciardo out of their control, leaving no seat. I think it was timings, not talent.Vaud said:

I think it was timings, not talent. That’s interesting re 2nd seat at Mercedes. They need someone who can take the baton from Hamilton. Botas whilst an amazing driver and a seemingly decent chap isn’t the man to deliver as no 1. So will be interesting to see if they will take a punt on someone new whilst Hamilton is still in the groove.

Nice problem for Mercedes to have, especially with their competitors scratching around for decent young drivers.
If Mercedes have any problem filling their seats I think it's a problem of their own making!
They don't need a succession plan for HAM for goodness sake, as soon as he decides to retire they can basically have whoever they want. Even if it costs VER £100M to buy himself out of his Red Bull contract he'll do it to get that seat.
Remember when Senna offered to get in the Williams for free?

I've changed my post for you.
Thank you - you have done wonders for my blood pressure. I've not saved Leclerc to the dictionary so I can remember to prefix it with bloody every time.
Bottas is 2nd in the drivers championship and Wolff has said many times this year that he's in the form of his life. I don't really know what more they want or expect from a second driver right now, especially when they have been vocal about not wanting another Nico vs Lewis situation. Why would they put Ocon in? I don't get it and I don't believe it.

Want to stop drivers gaining an advantage off the track, gravel sorts that out..
Lots of ’verstoppen’ banana/sausage curbs in too.
& where the those did not quite work last year, the new Croc teeth solution, floor wreckers..
Good odds on some FP/quali floor damage then!Lots of ’verstoppen’ banana/sausage curbs in too.

This is a double home race for Williams (team & driver), hope they're finally on top of the spares situation...
I'm happy to see these changes. Not least because it might stop anymore 'gaining an advantage' penalty debates. No need to penalise if the offending car has wrecked itself in doing so.

Who knows what goes on behind the scenes? That "to whom it may concern, f**k you" radio broadcast in Australia didn't sound like a sweeping insult to me, it sounded like he had someone in mind and knew how to bring it to their attention.
Financial backers who stopped backing him, nothing to do with Mercedes obviously- otherwise, why say it? HustleRussell said:

It is on the F1 channel but the races are usually as boring as a race can get, my opinion obviously.
Seriously. I can cope with F2, in fact increasingly I enjoy F2... Porsche? Nah - it's like super slow motion racing. Not there is anything wrong with Porsche, very well sorted drivers cars for sure. It's just hard to stay awake watching them dribble around the track compared to what us F1 fans are used to Gassing Station | Formula 1 | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
