If Senna hadn’t lost just life, MS wouldn’t have had any WDCs.

So many ifs and buts.
Are you sure about that ?
Schumacher was pushing Senna in the Williams to the max
That winter, Williams has their new very advanced suspension banned by the FIA. Car was pretty much un-drivable for first few races.

It went on to be the benchmark car for next few years.

MS only just beat journeyman Hill twice before he and Villeneuve won two WDC.

Senna would have bagged the 4.

Still ifs and buts, but a very likely scenario.

What year did that magazine come out? I'd not be at all surprised if he'd updated his views since then.

15 years ago. Hamilton was just warming up to walk the Formula Three EuroSeries with nearly double the points of his next nearest competitor.

Regrettably, the third part of the statement has come into play.

It just goes to show you can never predict the future. I'd imagine most of us in 2004 never imagined Schumacher's stats would be under threat during the foreseeable future, let alone by someone who was able to do that with no number one status and without resorting to dirty driving.

I hear what you're saying.

Just because Hamilton doesn't often get his elbows out doesn't automatically make him a greater driver. Achievements in adverse conditions, against fierce rival competition and often in a sub-par car are the hallmarks of Schumacher.

Mike Tyson played rough and ready, but that doesn't mean Anthony Joshua is a better boxer.

Sub-par car... Lol
You as well forget that Schumacher never had to fight a world champion or even a double world champion as a team mate with equal opportunity.
The only 2 good drivers Schumacher had to fight in his career for a title were Hakkinen and Alonso... And he lost 4 times in total. Shows that as soon as competition was strong, he failed.

There was no other driver of equal talent available in '96.
Mika was a McLaren man.
The Ferrari was not a title contender until 2000, but some incredible performances prior to that.
Villeneuve in the dominant Williams was no slouch.
McLaren and Mika were mighty.

FIA switched tyre regs to suit Alonso's Renault as they were bored with Schumacher's dominance.
Quite right too !

That backfired quite spectacularly on Bo_apex... I'm sure he'll pretend it didn't happen.

Never thought we'd see an even more dominant F1 car era again either. The Mercedes era makes Ferrari's era look pretty tame to be honest.

F1 is all about luck, politics and nepotism.

Would anyone have imagined Alonso "only" being a 2 x WDC when he retired from F1? Would anyone have imagined Kubica looking like an absolute bum against George Russell? Or Hamilton suddenly becoming "the best ever" after he and Button were team mates?

What’s the daily mail readership got to do with anything?

Bo was trying to troll people suggesting Hamilton’s ex colleague and friend thought more of Schumacher than Hamilton by producing a 14 year old article and passing it off as accurate and current.

I don’t read the daily mail but a quick google search debunked his claims.

Really? And there’s me thinking talent and skill had a decent part in it too? Or are you saying Schumacher was neither skilful or talented....

I'd expected him to have more titles until he came up against Hamilton. Even after that, he made some poor/unlucky choices and I think 2 WDC's is fewer than he deserves.

Sadly his physical limitations must play a part in this.

The Hamilton of recent times is clearly better than the McLaren era one, but even back then he was plainly better than Button most of the time. He had a relatively bad 2011, but the 2/1 head to head with Jenson seems reasonably representative. Hamilton's natural talent has never been in doubt in the motorsport community. As a fan from his karting days, what's satisfying to me is the way he's mastered modern F1 and the art of winning titles.

He really is looking seriously GOATY these days.
