Downforce doesnt change on the banking.

There is the potential for higher tyre load due to centripetal forces.

Which increases downforce. Not aero downforce.. but still downforce.

The car is pushed harder in to the ground relative to the suspension as a result of the additional centripetal force pushing the tyres towards the centre of the radius of the banked turn, minus the centrifugal force, which wants to push the car through the banked turn. The result is a compression of that which stands between the two - the suspension.

The upshot is that a car which has already exhausted it's suspension travel at around 150mph on a straight, now has to also deal with additional forces it won't experience for a sustained period anywhere else on the calendar.

I don't see any extra overtaking coming from that banking, entry line is too limited.

The whole track is limited at modern F1 speeds, so will be interesting to see if I'm wrong, hopefully I am.
I remember when the circuit's return was first announced, several of the drivers who had raced there previously said it was a great circuit to drive on, but terrible to race on, even in F3 cars. The extra size and speed of the F1 cars will just shrink the track even further.

Judging from the onboard Red Bull put on their social media's of Verstappen doing a lap round there ir looks like overtaking will be all but none existent

yes looks a bit narrow and like a rollercoaster. The winner will be the one that keeps his breakfast down.
Interesting new event though right by the coast.

Nope, I was disagreeing that downforce doesn't change on banked corners. It does.

Big crash today (?) from the new Zandvoort, contact while lapping a slower car sends this 911 over the catch fencing -

Wow. Straight over and nearly landed on some marshalls.

Do we know which corner that was?

Judging by the optional chicane for motorbikes it looks like the run up towards Scheivlak. Like much of the circuit, certainly the first sector after Tarzan, not an easy place to run two abreast. It’s alternating rights and lefts, so like sector one at Suzuka and COTA or Maggots / Becketts at Silverstone, it tends to sort you into single file unless you’re a mad person.

Thanks. It's not clear in the footage but it looks a bit like he was punted in to a flip - maybe side by side in the wrong place? Glad he's ok, but I'm willing to bet the catch fencing for the GP might be reconsidered..

That corner is at the end of a slightly up hill run of essentially a straight but with kinks in it. You have to accelerate all way so you arrive at that bend very fast. Its a bit like a smaller Paddock Hill with the braking area on a raise then it dips down to the right. The run toward it is also pretty undulating, narrow and not all that wide, I guess he must have come upon a slower car, miss judged that cars speed and hit the back of it launching him into the air. Amazing he got out that looking pretty OK!!!!

Looks to me like he exited the car and walked off looking ok, no doubt under the influence of adrenaline.. and then all but collapsed a few metres away. Sure he'll be fine but probably very shaken.

At least he can say he's christened the new circuit..

Yea, that must have been a very, very heavy landing, landing upside down on the roof, bet his shoulders and head ache now!! But looking at the car, once they turned it back on its wheels the rollcage did its job as the cockpit area didn't look squashed at all!!!
