Always wonder why they don't just reduce the maximum width of the whole car from the current 2meters to 1.8 meters. Start making the cars a bit smaller as width has become an issue,
You can't have been wondering for that long. They only increased the car width from 1.8 to 2m in 2017.
true, they've grown longer too over the years, and it is one of the cited issues.

With so much focus on miniturisation in tech and engineering today one might argue it should be pushing the other way.

One might also argue that road cars are getting forever more bloated as they become more capable and safer.. so in a way F1 cars are following the trend for broadly similar reasons.

I believe there is a new regulation limiting the wheelbase for 2021 which will basically stop the cars getting any longer.

The continuous parade of ridiculous F1 noses over the last 10 years is all the proof you need to see that designers dont care about making good looking cars
And nor should they.

Aesthetics doesn't and has never factored in the design of racing cars. That some have looked good is purely accidental.

A designer's job is to make a car quicker than the other cars. And that's it.

Sure it’s true, but nice looking cars always seem to go well for some reason.

I suppose it’s like F1 go faster stripes.

I mean I assume it's a little tongue in cheek, but this is the internet, I'm going to answer it anyway hehe

I would imagine due to how taste can be influenced by repeated exposure (nobody really likes beer / coffee / cigarettes the first time) and we've all seen how an E60 5 series now sort of looks quite good despite being an unmitigated disaster when new, I would imagine a certain amount of this correlation is that we see more of the winning / front running cars, success / brilliance is also typically an attractive trait, and they're more likely to have the best (and thus favoured) drivers in them, all leading to warm gooey feelings about the Lotus 79 or what have you, when presumably few of them are particularly beautiful objects if we could take them in complete isolation scratchchin

That's enough of that anyway, back to complaining about regulations.

I'd echo the sentiments above, that really Brawn et al. are probably going to make a better job of things given the array of constraints they have than 1 man from the internet who isn't privy to any of the information / skill / experience / talent that they have.
