Since the end of the 2019 season they've had endless replays of the 2019 races, a different one each day including all practice sessions. Endlessly, on a loop. Today is an exception because they are showing a few races from 2010-2012 to celebrate Jenson Button's birthday. Tomorrow is back to a rerun of the entire 2019 Hungarian GP weekend. Again.

During the season they have endless replays of the most recent race, interspersed with replays of Ted's notebook and driver profiles and suchlike. In the run up to a new race you might get one or two old races shown that are related to the upcoming GP.

I don't know where they are hiding all these wall to wall replays of 30 year old races that other people think they are seeing, because they aren't on the Sky F1 channel that I get. scratchchin
Yesterday I’m pretty sure it was an old Belgium GP

They showed a fair few during the season. You're right that since the season ended they're re-showing it all and each race including practice, quali, build up and review seems to span about 10 hours of the schedule each day... Doesn't leave much space for anything else.

Who said the old races were shown wall to wall? I'd guess during the 2019 season it was more like one or two a week depending on how they tied in to upcoming races or events in the sport.

If they had more general motor sport content and more retrospective look backs at motor sport history, I'd be very tempted to buy Sky F1. But its wall to wall and almost exclusive coverage of current F1 is just overkill for me and I wouldn't get enough value out of my investment.
You clearly don’t watch SkyF1 channel then.

It’s constantly got very old races replayed I see this often (rarely watch the old stuff but it’s there)
^^^^ Wot 'e said, wall to wall coverage of old races all year round except on race weekend & even then they are there also.

If "old" is anything after 1990, then that, to me, is not really old. The current owners definitely have access to all F1 material back to 1981 - the first year FOCA had the rights - which is the basis of the Liberty "asset".

Pre 1981 it's a bit messier as there never was any one "rights holder" for F1 races before 1981 - so getting hold of older recordings of races is more problematic. For a start, quite a few races pre 1981 just don't exist in any sort of recorded media. However, You Tube shows that quite a few more than originally assumed seems to have survived.

And even if races are tracked down, getting some sort of deal with whoever owns the footage might be messy and time consuming.

But, I think if Sky F1 wanted to expand its appeal to a wider motor racing contingent, maybe they should explore these possibilities. And possibly look at other motor sport beyond F1.

They have shown the odd race from the 80's and 90's, but it's usually something you can see on youtube anyway, The overwhelming majority of their 'old' races are post-2000, and in fact mostly post-2010. I can't recall a single race from the pre-FOCA era being shown on Sky, and barely any acknowledgement that F1 even existed then at all.

At one point they seemed to have some old ESPN archive stuff - which included such gems as the 1975 British GP (which had an interesting last few laps).

And the 1973 British GP, the race which featured Jody Scheckter's massive cock-up coming out of Woodcote.

Good move by SKY. Its in their interest to show it wasn't a good deal for them so they can pay less or bail out next time contract is due.
Did think C4 showed more than 50% already.

So, I want to watch live races, live practice sessions and live qualifying. Without listening to lazy and crafty discussing what they ate on the flight and how many times they had to flush the business class toilets compared to cattle class bogs.

Ahead of Melbourne, whats my best viewing option/package?

Or starting the process of disengaging completely knowing that LM will be taking the rights in-house when the current contract ends, which has been LM's stated position all along.

I'm willing to bet my house that Whisper Productions already has the gig for producing the pics and sound for F1TV post 2024, if not earlier if LM decide to buy back the last couple of years of the contract at a knock-down rate (especially If LH retires). I'm seriously doubting Sky are seeing the returns on their investment that they thought they would.

F1 TV pro on IOS store £59.99.

You can switch the commentary off (with sound still on), or watch the excellent pit lane channel.

Oh and you can watch and replay whenever you want (any session), and pick your own onboards.

Only drawback its 1080p not UHD.

Come up on subscriptions on IOS store

Debited on my UK credit card via IOS.

(Need a VPN pointed somewhere outside of Europe).

Interesting. I thought you'd need a non-UK credit card. Did it work last season?

My Sky deal finished (£15.00 per month all channels) after the US Gp, I watched Brasil & Abu Dhabi on F1TV, I did not want to start paying £35pcm + for sports (for pretty much F1 and the odd football match).

So I did the subscription via my phone.

Credit card statement just said APP STORE as such.

The only thing I need to do is get a lightening to HDMI cable to watch on my TV system.

That is interesting... I'm guessing IOS store masks the source of payment. sorts the payment issue, and then just VPN for access going forwards. Only problem is I'm a Samsung user, not iPhone so not sure if it'll work the same way for me.

That might not work as many apps disable the use of an "external display". I cannot get Sky Sports to work on an external display from a tablet/phone.

Admittedly it does not work on the Apple TV (I can Mirror but the quality is not great, and when live my MAC, but does on my iPad and IPhone..

Apple store wanted 50£ ! (Haha), I’m sure I can source a decent one for a few quid, although the Bose system does have a iPhone doc, so I’ll give that a go when I get a few mins..

The reality is that Sky need relatively few customers to make the it pay. If I go to their website today to get Sky is £540 per annum for me to get the Sky Sports package. So the rumoured £100m pa cost to SKY of TV Rights equates to 185,000 viewers. However in reality it is believed they may get £35m a year from Channel 4 and therefore they need 120,000 viewers to cover the cost of the rights.

It appears they have around 780,000 viewers.
