My old Physics master at school had an interesting response to copying. Any pupils caught copying would have their marks apportioned between them. So if the plagiarised work was worth 6/10, and was copied by one person, then each person would be marked 3/10. If copied by 2 other people, each person would get 2/10. hehe

(Obviously not applicable here, but I thought I would mention it for amusement)
Bit of a sod if you didn't know your homework was being copied biggrin

...which apparently Mercedes did not 'know'...

At the very least I bet the guys that operate the wind tunnel raised an eyebrow when Racing Point rolled in their latest creation scratchchin

When you think about it, it's a clever move. Nothing much was going to change for this season, with the new regs next year. So plenty of photos of aero last season, as much 'tech' as they could get their hands on, and whether or not Merc knew about it, they've built a clone of last year's runaway winner on the cheap.

Anyone else see the really weird Norris steering input stuff earlier?

Exactly, that's my view. Everyone else has said they're focused on 2021.. So why not copy last years Merc for this year? It's as valid an approach as just mildly updating last years car like most others have done. Good for them, hope they get a podium for initiative.

Also all the nonsense about other teams objecting..? On what basis exactly? The haven't broken a single rule... Unless Mercedes literally handed them design details, and I really can't imagine they would ever do that - they don't need to risk that sort of behaviour. All Racing Point have done is to take to the extreme the same principals that those complaining have benefited from for years.

Well, quite. How many teams copied Blown Diffusers in pretty short order?

What about when McLaren obtained (stole) Ferrari design blueprints in 2007 and used bits of this in their car for 2007 and 2008 when Hamilton won his 1st championship?

At least the Racing Point "Pink" Mercedes is copied design concepts by the engineers and not from actual Mercedes 2019 blueprints stolen from Mercedes themselves.

RP buy the engine and gearbox from Mercedes

Mercedes obviously know best house to package this to maximise performance

Further to this the gearbox dictates the rear suspension pick up points so is a major factor in the rear aero of the car

Aero works from the front wing back so if you’re going for a different concept you have to have a compromised rear end or compromised aero.

It makes total sense to copy last years Merc and it will give them some solid income to go forward with. It’s a pretty clever strategy in my eyes.

I have no doubts whatsoever that MB and RP will have been over this with a fine tooth comb (or is that a fine-toothed comb?) and will be within the regulations. They would be stupid to do otherwise.

Mercedes appear to have thrown everything they can at this years record breaking double title target, it's so valuable to them. Against that backdrop I too find it beyond reason to imagine they would allow themselves to become embroiled in any underhand dealing.

As has been said, to achieve the final design they have thousands of photos at Racing Point of the W10 along with everyone else's cars, which isn't really Merc's concern or problem.

Hamilton in the W11 stopped out on track with a PU problem...

Maybe there's some light at the end of the tunnel of this season.

How many laps/miles have they put it through so far this testing week and last? Not sure on the exact numbers but I think it's higher than anyone else has managed.

surprisingly there has been less reliability overall than last year I would say.

Unless it's the same engine that has done all the test miles this year - no doubt they'll come out with that one :-(

The photocopied Mercedes has had no problems though has it not? And the Williams one problem. I think every engine provider has had at least 1 problem.

He did a series of runs where he was steering excessively into corners inducing a significant amount of front slip. Not really sure how to describe it other than that.

Official FIA broadcast radio call just now.

Latifi : "My right side mirror is fked, I say my right side mirror is fked"

Well, that's different of them and no apology from the commentary team.

He did say that didn't he?

Liberty Media, conditioning the audience for tomorrow's Drive To Survive S2 launch. The F-bomb competition will be strong between Horner & Steiner laugh

Williams have had three PU changes so far; two oil system related and one MGU-H.

Probably a packaging issue on Williams part.

Mercedes have just confirmed that their PU today shut down due to low oil pressure - same as the Latifi in the Williams.

As an aside, Williams have had multiple issues despite running far less overall than Mercedes. In addition to a Mercedes issue that is common between the two, it could be that their packaging is causing subsequent issues perhaps? They have certainly tightened their car up compared to the barge they ran last year.
