Does football cease to be a sport because you have no realistic chance of winning the premiership if you play for Southampton?
When the players are out on the pitch they have the same equipment as the opposition, ELUSIVEJIM said:
needs to be careful, hes only there because the faster drivers don't bring as much sponsorshipi love the way he compares it to other sports like tennis as a negative but the the same issues appear in all sports
Do well early in your career and you get better training, better equipment and better prospects. Top Tennis players are sponsored, they get the latest and greatest kit, they get their own dietitians and physiotherapists and so on. half a step down from the elite and you're buying it all yourself, its not as good.
Boxing is the same, sure gloves are mandated so equipment you compete with is equal but its never equal. 2 guys of same ability, the one signed with a major promoter who is bankrolled, doesn't have to hold down a job and can train more has a major advantage when it comes down to the fight.

And when an F1 team starts designing its car for a season, it has the same equipment as the other teams, broadly speaking. You can't think of F1 as being "the races", they make up a small (but obviously very visible) minority of the sport as a whole.
They don't really though do they, not when one is spending $100 million on equipment and another $400 million, on equipment to design a car. The Mercedes equipment is vastly superior to what Haas has on offer. It's F1, always has been and probably always will be but the driver is such a small % of the difference between a team.

Honda and Brawn with Jenson Button. He was nearly not in the 2009 Championship.
2008 Button was 18th in the Championship.
2009 Champion
Like Honda last year, moving forward with powertrain.2008 Button was 18th in the Championship.
2009 Champion
All current powertrain suppliers have been competitive in the past. They all could again at some point.

F1 is an advertising platform for Ferrari, and an opportunity for other manufactureres to develop technologues that will 'trickle down'
remember the KERS battery pack and regenrative braking?
today most new cars are hybrids with derivations of that same technology.
going further back, remember when thye stopped using carburettors and went to electronic injection? a few years later every car sold had the same.
look at the downsized turbocharged F1 engines of today and think about where consumer ICE is headed...
its an overblown R&D centre, with lots of media attention.

Is that really any different on principle than a big football club spending millions more than a smaller one on transfers and salaries? Heartworm said:

Yes, which is why it's a team sport not an individual sport, but that doesn't stop is being a sport. Or call it a "team competition" instead if you prefer; not sure what the difference is really. Edited by kambites on Monday 24th February 16:06

It's not like the mid 60's, where a team could run a V16, but have no chance making minimum weight.

F1 Rules are influenced by the preferences of its biggest car manufacturers.
By contrast Nike has no influence over the rules in football.
Have a look at the current controversy in athletics over Vaporfly shoes...By contrast Nike has no influence over the rules in football.
Ben Johnson ?
Another load of UTTER, UTTER, UTTER UTTER PURILE DRIVEL that was clearly written by another idiot who hasn't done their research or even due diligence & just wants to make themselves known.
F1.
Premiership.
US Masters.
etc. etc. etc.
All are 100% identical taken in that context.
Look at any level of any sport & (relatively speaking) money matters, simple!
